anybody want to split a set of repro GT3 seats?

I have identified an inexpensive source for reproduction GT3 seats. They are sold by the set. $1100 a set for fiberglass (20 lbs each + brackets) or $1400 a set for carbon (18 lbs each + brackets). These are the delivered prices. I'm only interested in 1 seat - does anybody in the SoCal area want the other seat from the set? I'm flexible on color, and willing to deliver to the LA area.

PM me if interested.

I'm sure you already know this, but be careful when buying aftermarket seats and confirm safety standard compliance (e.g., FIA certified). Sub-standard seats can literally kill or paralyze you. Further, some sanctioning groups prohibit the use of non-certified seats for track events.

I don't think the stock seats are FIA certified...

Of course the stock seats are not FIA certified, but they have been crash-tested and certified by agencies both in the US and Europe. If I were going to be replacing a stock seat with a "racing" type seat where I'm losing the thorax airbag protection, I would make sure it was either FIA certified to work correctly with a certified harness/roll bar system (which is really the only reason to buy seats like this anyway) or crash tested by some national/international agency. I also have to say that I looked at the pictures of those seats over on 6speed, and from the pictures posted, they don't look very well made. Put pictures of real 996 GT3 seats next to those, and you'll see they look quite shoddy, IMHO. While these seats maybe half-price compared to the real things, sometimes it is true that you get what you pay for... and although you might not, I consider seats in a car that's used on a racetrack, to be safety equipment. As they say when buying a helmet: "how much is your head worth?" In this case, how much are you worth in the unlikely event there's a mishap on-track? In this case, I don't think it's so much about what is or isn't allowed on the track by any sanctioning body, or getting through tech in the morning, but what's truly safe to be using in a high-speed, high-load driving environment on a racetrack.

My $0.02.

I don't know anything about these seats in particular, but I have to echo Beez's sentiments that I wouldn't buy them either unless they had been thoroughly tested. When you buy Porsche GT3 seats you can rest assured that Porsche and Recaro have tested them and that they meet the requisite safety requirements and since Porsche puts them in some new cars they do have to be crash tested. I know in Nov 07 the new GT2 style seats were undergoing extensive testing to get certified in PCA club racing events and that the GT3 seats were already certified.

Don't forget that you have to provide a like kind seat to the instructor, if your driving event has them.

Re: anybody want to split a set of repro GT3 seats?

Oakley Design (Now distributed through Farnbacher Loles in the US), has some super light GT3 EU looking seats that you should look into. Price is not bad, and I know that they were in the process of getting FIA certification 2 months ago when I was looking for seats.

When I got a quote they quoted me per seat. Might have the option of only buying one if thats what you really want.
