Airport Runway Racing (Zone 8)
Hey,
Anyone know of any opportunities to loosen the reins of a Cayman S on an Airport runway. I've seen that type of racing but never heard of any around here where there's an organization and an abandoned runway to do it on. I'm in Zone 8 Southern California btw.

Re: Airport Runway Racing (Zone 8)
You can run the PCA OCR AX @ the olf El Toro MCAS.
From your post I am note sure whether you were looking for high speed straight line runs or road course / AX type racing. If it is the latter, then run the next AX at El Toro on 4/19 and will have a blast.
Details of the event can be found here : Porsche Club of America - Orange Coast Region www.pcaocr.org - Home

Re: Airport Runway Racing (Zone 8)
There is an invitation only event today at the Glendale Airport in Glendale, AZ. Lucky me, I have to miss it for work in New Jersey.
Sad sad sad.... very sad.....

Krokodil,
I've heard of plenty of A/X's. I was thinking more along the lines of some top speed straight line racing and the 1/4 mile drag seems too short. An airport runway would work nicely. It'd be nice to quote, "I've been up to such and such speed in my Cayman S."

There's always the Zone 8 CA Festival of Speed at Fontana next weekend if you are interested in a DE/TT. My guess is the speeds you could reach there may exceed what you will get at an airport runway.

Re: Airport Runway Racing (Zone 8)
You live in the wrong state first of all, you need to come to Texas and run the Texas Mile. In fact it is this weekend. The Texas Mile is where you run on a 1.5 airport runway and try to make the 200mph club or as fast as you can. Check it out at The Texas Mile. Every thing is bigger in Texas. And no offense to Cali, since I was born and raised, but got to Texas as fast as I could.

About 140 entering Turn 1, but the trick is trying to keep it about 135 all the way through the T1 and T2 banking. Bring your brown pants.
You would think this would not be that hard as we go through T8 at WSIR at 125 or so and it is flat, but that wall really makes a difference.
A little less stressful is going 130+ at the end of the front straight on WSIR, but I am not really interested in how fast the car can go in a straight line. No much excitement really as I am usually adjusting my belts and scratching my nose on the straights. While I have not gone over about 140, the car is very, very stable and I can not imagine it is much different at 160.
Cheers,

Yeah, Zone 8 FoS is my first trip to a big track and thus my first trip to Fontana. I totally get the brown pants comment. I have watched videos of Roval laps on YouTube, and I'm sure I'll have some butterflies next weekend.

Re: Airport Runway Racing (Zone 8)
These guys do some bookings all across the country for Airport and supercar days www.worldclassdriving.com
We've got a great airport in Florida, just had an event... Dade Collier Training and Transition Airport otherwise know as Everglades Jetport... built for supersonic air-craft from Europe and South America before the Environmentalist shut that idea down. AutoWeek March 23 did a great story, page 44 "Can't Drive 55"

Some great photos from the event... Runway Sunset Pics - FerrariChat.com

I'm with you on that Krok, the best demonstration of the Cayman S's overall allure is when you let it loose on all types of track conditions (turns especially). The balance is sublime. It's too easy to make anything go fast in a straight line. I just love it when you get the "this is faster than that argument." I don't even respond to those anymore. But like I said before, just to say I've been up to this top speed once (legally of course) is what I'm looking for here. Very rarely, with the exception of FoS can you get to a track that will let you max out top speed. Anyway, thanks for the comments. Anymore, keep em coming.

Are there any DE requirements for AX events?
