I think I can make this, though I won't know until it gets a little closer...
Does one need to be a PCA member to partake? I will join, just haven't gotten to it yet.

Road rallying can best described as a board game on wheels. Just like in a board game, you get a set of rules, when you first register for the event. These rules govern the actual play of the event. So if you like Monopoly, Scrabble, Tripoly, Trivial Pursuit, Wheel of Fortune, or Jeopardy, or even poker you’ll love rallying(yes, there are poker rallyes).
It is NOT a race or speed event, but instead is a skill-based sport that bases your knowledge of the rules against your ability to apply those rules out on short rallye courses. These are fun events for singles, couples, and yes, even couples with children and - well, just about anyone that enjoys a fun time and true challenge. Most of our rallyes will involve sign spotting so the more eyes to help you the better you may score. For a first hand view of the rallye experience checkout this website : http://www.speakeasy.org/~swatt/babr-1.wmv
Navigational/Gimmick Rallye
The dictionary defines “gimmick” as a device employed to deceive or trick, to clutter with catchy details. A Navigational/Gimmick rallye is simply one put together by the Rallyemaster that is full of catchy details, deceptions, puzzles, and tricks. It is up to you to generally decode and figure out the various gimmicks in a particular rallye. These gimmicks will include tricky wordings, and definitions that are easily misinterpreted. In a typical rallye, entrants are given a packet of various types of instructions which contain some puzzles and clues (some obvious, some not) to solve. These puzzles are the “gimmicks” of the rallye. Materials given to you at the start are to be taken literally. As you follow the set of instructions appropriately named “Route Instructions”, you will solve these clues and deviate from the route from time to time, since the correct solution of a puzzle may direct you momentarily away from the route. If you have correctly deduced the gimmick, you will be temporarily re-routed in a way that you can accumulate points on your score sheet.
In this event, you will also be looking for signs with the last names of famous people found on US currency... Like Washington St., or Lincoln Ave....and much, much more, of course.
Hope you can join us
Cheers
Bob

Re: Gimmick Rallye June 6th - Sunnyvale to Santa Cruz
For those of you who would like to try your hand at a "Table Top" rallye before embarking on our little outing in June, here is an article from the Loma Prieta Post where we offered a practice event...
http://lpr.pca.org/post/post200903.pdf
The best way to do this is to print pages 16-23. then tape the map pages (22-23) together for better viewing...
Answers can be found beginning on page 50
Give it a try... The June event will be much easier...
Cheers
Bob

Who's coming? Gimmick Rallye June 6th -
Hi Zone 7 folks,
As we approach the Rallye date, I need to get an idea of how many will be joining us that day to be sure we have enough sets of instructions and that the finish location (Seabright Brewery in Santa Cruz) gats an idea of how many hungry, thirsty folks will decend on them that afternoon.
Please be so kind as to indicate your intended attendance.

Re: Gimmick Rallye June 6th - Sunnyvale to Santa Cruz
Hey, Bob. I fear I might have to let hubby drive his Corvette in the rallye. I remembered that he gets carsick when he has to navigate!
C'mon, fellow Caymanites and Porschephiles! Don't take this lying down! Win back the coveted Cayman Tail by turning out for this great event!

Exactly! And the only way to save it is to turn out for the rallye on Saturday! Otherwise, the coveted Cayman Tail will remain in the hands of the evil Z06 driver!

Re: Gimmick Rallye June 6th - Sunnyvale to Santa Cruz
Woohoo!
What a great day we had, cruzin' highways and byways from Sunnyvale to Watsonville to Santa Cruz, following Cold Croc's diabolical directions to a timely arrival at Seabright Brewery. Thanks to a little creative scoring, yours truly and my navigator, the evil Z06 driver, took 1st place in the beginner class in spite of a few unplanned detours. Hey, they don't call me the U-Turn Queen for nothing!
Many thanks to Bob for putting together a fantastically fun event. I hope we see more of our planetporsche contingent next time (HINT).

Re: Gimmick Rallye June 6th - Sunnyvale to Santa Cruz
Hi everyone,
Sounds like a fun event, and I would've loved to join in but I wasn't aware of it.
Being a newbie, I have a few of questions: When is the next one held? Do you have to own a Porsche to come along? And I'm sure that it would probably help to have an extra set of eyes to help me navigate the directions, but most likely I'll be by myself, so are the directions easy to follow?
Thanks for any informations you can provide.
