The cost of vehicle tax for cars, UK only.

The cost of vehicle tax for cars, UK only.(formaly RFL Road Fund Licence)
Copy of chart from .gov website

Petrol car (TC48) and diesel car (TC49)

Band---CO2 emission (g/km)---12 months rate
A--------Up to 100--------------Not applicable
B---------101-120 ---------------£35.00
C---------121-150 ---------------£120.00
D---------151-165 ---------------£145.00
E---------166-185---------------£170.00
F---------Over 185--------------£210.00
G---------Over 225--------------£400.00 (– for cars registered on or after 23/03/06)

My question is although we are all band G, Does this mean that cars Like mine and Jacks that were registered in December 2005 pay one band down i.e. Band F ?? at £210 rather than the £400 of Band G ????

Re: The cost of vehicle tax for cars, UK only.

I suppose I only have to wait a day or two to find out. Tax reminder must be in the post by now.

I was under the impression it was going to be £210

Jack

Yep, £210 for now, but milk it while you can. By 2010 we'll all be paying the same! See link...

Re: The cost of vehicle tax for cars, UK only.

So Allan, make sure you buy the tax before April '09 to save youself a few quid.

Does anyone have the list of bands for '09 and '10. I can't find it. Is L the top band? I have the small matter of a 4.2l 8200rpm V8 to consider as well as the CS............

Well, the V11 turned up in the post this morning.

Nice surprise............£210

Add to that the cars first MOT in a few days time, and 3 happy years of motoring nirvana are nearly at a close.......

Saw a 997 GT3 in gray for £60 yesterday ...........soooooooo tempting, mmmmmmmmmm

Re: The cost of vehicle tax for cars, UK only.

I'm quoting this from memory, from an article in Panorama, but the numbers are something like this.

Eighty-five percent of all the CO2 that enters the atmosphere is naturally occurring over which mankind has no control. The remaining 15% is roughly accounted for in four categories; manufacturing, transportation, power generation and household.

Within transportation, roughly half is from automobiles.

Therefore, one half of one quarter of 15% is the automobile contribution- 1.8% Probably less than the error band around our knowledge of the total amount in the first place.

Not to worry, whatever the figures, the govt. have decided to delay the increases.

They've obviously found a scientific report stating that "in the 18 months before an election, all car emissions will be rendered harmless"

Re: The cost of vehicle tax for cars, UK only.

Whether emissions are what percentage or not, don't forget that taxation has approximately 0% to do with what you're doing to the environment.

Cash in the govt coffers means one thing: Cash in it's coffers. Ask yourself how much of that is spent improving the environment and you'll surmize the taxation has as much to do with environmental preservation/regeneration as it has to do with your socks.

It's more or less a question of "in this time of recession, who can we tax that'll whine the least, so we can plug some of the gapping big holes in our pockets?"
