TechArt BodyKit Question

Hey All!

I am after some advice! I'm thinking about getting a TechArt Bodykit for my Cayman plus some 20 inch alloy wheels and lowered suspension. I'm trying to do this as cheaply as possible and would appreciate your advice on costs.

Bodykit

Aerodynamic Kit II - I'm thinking just front bumper, side skirts and rear spoiler II at the moment. Leaving the back bumper as standard spec in order to keep costs down (as long as this looks OK).

Wheels

These don't need to be TechArt as I guess they will cost a bomb. Maybe some 20 inch TSW and wider at the back (I like nice and simple alloys, silver not coloured coded) plus cheap tires, but definately not genuine porsche wheels. Must be 20 inch, I'm not into lille wheels.

Suspension

I have no idea on costs / manufactures at the moment, again would like the car to look TechArt so nice and low, but again nothing flash.

Additional Items

I guess I would need wheel spacers if I want the rims to fit nice and flush at the back, also additional items that I may have forgotten!

Any help would be gratefully appreciated!!! If you need further information please let me know. I've just started looking into this and have some cash saved but I'm interested to hear from people on how to do this as cheaply as possible! :-)

I have contacted the main TechArt dealer in the UK but would really appreciate your feedback. I have looked on the web for information but all I find are part numbers but not prices which tends to make me feel a little uneasy as to costs! Hehe.

All the best,

James

Re: TechArt BodyKit Question

Love the look as I am working toward the Black Cayman S TechArt look myself. As for the wheels, I was able to pick up the genuine article nearly half price on eBay. 20x8.5" in front and 20x11" for the rear. Seems like someone always has a set for sale.

For the rear you will need 15mm spacers - I chose H&R. I also went H&R on the springs which were good for 1.25" off the front and rear. I also got the springs used on eBay from someone trading up to coil overs. Finally, I think the front lip and side skirts, and clear side lights are all that is required to complete the look. Good luck.

Hey Dawg! Thanks so much for the information.

Do you have an idea on costs? I would be so grateful for a price as I need to clear it with the old ball n chain! :-) Also how much did you pay for the wheels on ebay if you don't mind me asking (just approx)?

Thanks so much for the information! :-)

James.

Re: TechArt BodyKit Question

Ah yes, must clear with the ol'e Trouble & Strife. Isn't this what you say in the UK? I Paid $3,800 USD for new wheels with used tires (a great deal). Got the used springs for $160 USD. Paid retail $150 USD for the spacers.

Haha! Exactly! :-)

Thanks for the idea on prices. I really appreciate it!

Just need to find a good idea on price for the kit now and hopefully in business.

All the best,

James.

Re: TechArt BodyKit Question

why 20"

i have taken my 19" off mine and gone back to 18"

it ruins how the car handles why would you want to do this ?

I have the 20" too. It pure aesthetic. 20 with low profile just look sweeeet!

James - you can do this less obviously, by going onto other threads in other forums (other than the UK one) and passing agreeable remarks in support.......... Should not take you more than 15 minutes to knock off the extra 5 posts that you need.........

Good Luck with the Techart - But do not consider anything larger than 19" wheels as a practical maximum.

Re: TechArt BodyKit Question

I prefer the 18" wheels because of the ride quality but also with 19" the brakes start to look small.

Re: TechArt BodyKit Question

Techart stuff is very expensive, I'd expect a front bumper to be about a 1000 if not more. There are plenty of Techart look PU and fibreglass options on e bay for a lot less money. Personally i like the Ingo Noak and CSR front bumpers. I've a techart steering wheel and its about 1300 , so gives you an idea on price. Finding 20" tyres is going to be a challenge and the price is likely to be silly money. You will not be able to get a 20" tyre in the approved porsche n rating so be aware this may cause issues if a claim is made.
