My Cayman S on a Flatbed!

I am writing this from my dads computer in Cornwall, I come down for the weekend to visit my dad and friends, was driving around yesterday and overtaking a car with trailer going only 25mph, hit a nasty piece of granite rock in the opposite carriageway edge (rubbish Cornish roads) and puntured my drivers rear tyre, putting a nasty rip / slash in the side wall and taking a small chunck of alloy with it I manage to limp the car the 2 miles back to my dads place, the air was basically gone, but there was still enough strength in the side wall to go slowly.

Porsche assist was very helpful and an RAC flatbed came this morning to take the car back to Bristol, I am now waiting for the hire car they organised to be delivered (not a Porsche).

I tried lots of different tyre stockists yesterday but no one had 19" tyres so the flatbed back to Bristol was the option left. I could have travelled back with the RAC but elected to have the hire car, continue seeing friends for the rest of today, drive back tonight and then be able to get to work tomorrow.

I can not complain too much, its only my 2nd puncture in 20 years. There were some motorcross guys at the camp site/park home site where my dad lives and the car was parked, one has a 911 and as been to the Ring a few times, another one has a Red Cayman S so we had a little chat while the car went on the flatbed.

Hopefully Porsche will have some spare rear tyres

Re: My Cayman S on a Flatbed!

for the offer Tess, Bristol have a tyre in stock and are going to try and get away with 1 new tyre only as my tyres are at half wear after 14500 miles and 5 track days, the two rears will be right on the 4mm difference limit, and they will drive it and see if the PSM throws up an error for too large a diameter difference. I was half expecting I might have to replace both, fingers crossed its only one

Also getting the alloy refurbed/rerpaired for £100+vat and it should be back Wednesday morning.

The service manager said they checked the front tyres and there is plenty of wear left, but the front passenger side is showing a bit more outside wear, I then explained the car had done 5 track days this year and he chuckled and said thats ok then, at leats your driving the car as intended

I have a debadged Mercedes E class deisel Luxo Barge as a courtesey car which was very good the motorway journey back to bristol except for the poor seat which gave me back ache . Set the cruise control at 78 and did not touch the pedals for 90 miles

Re: My Cayman S on a Flatbed!

Update.

Got my car back now

In the end it only needed one rear tyre, all the others have 4mm of tread left.
The service manager said he was not happy with the quality of the alloy repair and if I looked at it and was happy I could take the car away without paying the £115 cost of the repair.

Looked at the car and was quite happy, there is a very slight flattening of the rim where the damage was and they appear to have repainted the entire outer face or done a very impresive matching job.

I am quite happy with that repair especially as its for free.

Final bill - £245 for a fitted / ballanced rear tyre along with valeting my car which was filthy after the drive down to Cornwall so i have to say to the bristol dealership for their service.

Had a look at a stunning new white GT2 in the showroom waiting for it owner to pick it up. Had rollcage, bucket seats with red 6 point harness, large fire extinguisher in passenger foot well, part silver/black alloys and black GT2 decals down the side.

I am in loveeeeeeeeee but my bank ballance says NO!

That GT2 has been in there 2 weeks!
Owner dosen't seem in a hurry.
If it was me, I would have picked it up in 2 mins
