New 2009 Cayman
Hi everyone,
I've lurked on these boards for a while now,but wondered if anyone knew when the UK 2009 cayman is coming out.
I only ask because I went to my local OPC the other day in my 2007 Cayman, walked in,stayed for 20 mins looking around,no one spoke to me at all.I then went to ask for details on the new cayman ,which seemed to be a bit of a struggle "No the new one that comes out soon" I bleated, eventually someone brought me a little envelope with a naff brochure in it.
It was tiny and there was no price list/options etc etc. When I asked they said they weren't sure what the options or prices were and I'll have to come back in....wait for it...MARCH!
Imagine my surprise when all the options and proper brochure appeared online the next day for the UK!
Is it me,but surely this is a gross error on Porsche's part, how can they not have communicated to their OPC's information like this when the car will be on the road in the not too distant future.Sometimes Porsche deserve a really big kick up the backside, they charge the earth for options which should be much cheaper and they're happy to lose sales in this current climate.
So next time anyone pops into Guildford or knows someone who works there, can you ask why they are being so lethargic,if I was the sales manager and saw the info online but wasn't getting info until March I'd be hopping mad.

Re: New 2009 Cayman
I was in my dealer last night to collect my '06 Cayman S, and the guy informaed me that the all new Cayman S was in the garage awaiting preperation. It was white and with the PDK option, nice looking car.
He kinldy showed me around the car as well as the inside too.
The changes are mild but if you look very close you can see a difference....the rear is more rounded on the bumper and the front bumper blends into the front wings much better and it also looks a little more aggressive!!!!
Also running new led lights at the front and rear.

Re: New 2009 Cayman
Someone posted on another forum that they were gettin a new model March 1st. The configurator on the Porsche web site will give you all the specs available and prices...
You can now have your interior vents painted in the exterior colour for £800! Thats stunning value for money!!

Strange, my experience at Guildford has been nothing but excellent. When I first walked in somebody saw me asap and made me feel comfortable. I even found when I went back a month after collecting my car the receptionists remembered me. My partner joked this must be because I was the only customer in the last few months of last year.
Maybe you caught them on an off day, but this is no excuse in this economic climate.

Which dealer was this, if you don't mind me asking?
Yes, the cars official launch in the UK is the end of Feb (4 weeks away).

uknick..........
Forgive me - But Does this Post refer - to your experience in 1978 when Porsche Guildford - Was AFN Porsche (Archibald Frazer Nash)
Google Search 'Archibald Fraser Nash' for Full Content...........
If Not..................... Guildford Porsche Are The - Most Anally Retentive, Porsche Dealers in the Universe in My Opinion.....................
Totally Devoid of 'Real World' Understanding.

No, only dealt with them since October last year. Maybe I have just been lucky. However, is there something I should know about before I spend any more money with them?

Re: New 2009 Cayman
They have the new Cayman at the OPC in Tonbridge, Kent. I had a test drive this week. Standard car with 19" wheels (no PDK, PASM, LSD, ect). It handles really well, more torque, greater balance, lighter feel - wow, I want one. Can't imagine how good it will be with LSD abd PASM.

PASM - Porsche Active Suspension Management
|
 |
This active damping system offers continuous adjustment of individual damping forces based on current road conditions and driving style.
The driver can choose from two setup modes, ‘Normal’ and ‘Sport’, using a separate ‘damper’ button on the center console. ‘Normal’ mode is designed for general road driving and circuits with uneven tarmac. ‘Sport’ mode is intended for smoother track surfaces, where the harder settings help eliminate pitch and roll.
In either mode, PASM continuously evaluates the current conditions while automatically selecting the corresponding damper rates from the respective set of mapped values.
A range of sensors are used to monitor the movement of the body under acceleration, braking and cornering maneuvers, as well as on poor road surfaces. The PASM control unit then evaluates this data and modifies the damping force on each individual wheel in accordance with the selected mode. The result is a significant reduction in body movement as well as a better grip on the road.
For example: if ‘Sport’ mode is selected, the suspension is automatically set to a harder damper rating. If the quality of the track surface falls below a certain threshold, the system immediately changes to a softer rating within the ‘Sport’ setup range. When the quality of the tarmac improves once more, PASM automatically returns to the original, harder rating.

LSD - Limited Slip Differential
|
 |
A limited slip differential (LSD) is a modified or derived type of differential gear arrangement that allows for some difference in rotational velocity of the output shafts, but does not allow the difference in speed to increase beyond a preset amount. In an automobile, such limited slip differentials are sometimes used in place of a standard differential, where they convey certain dynamic advantages, at the expense of greater complexity.
The main advantage of a limited slip differential is found by considering the case of a standard (or "open") differential where one wheel has no contact with the ground at all. In such a case, the contacting wheel will remain stationary, and the non-contacting wheel will rotate freely– the torque transmitted will be equal at both wheels, but will not exceed the threshold of torque needed to move the vehicle, thus the vehicle will remain stationary. In everyday use on typical roads, such a situation is very unlikely, and so a normal differential suffices. For more demanding use however, such as driving off-road, or for high performance vehicles, such a state of affairs is undesirable, and the LSD can be employed to deal with it. By limiting the velocity difference between a pair of driven wheels, useful torque can be transmitted as long as there is some friction available on at least one of the wheels.
