New Cayman S owner! - A quick question...

I have noticed a whine coming from the engine, this is only when pootl'ing around town, once I'm up to motorway speed it gets drowned out by road noise, or if I put my foot down it gets drowned out by the exhaust

In neutral on the drive it is fine, in neutral building the revs slowly the whine is noticable until around 4k when the exhaust drowns it out again.

Is this the flat 6 porsche engine thing I have read about? Have never driven a car with the engine in the cabin so maybe they all do this. Had a loud whining noise before from another car and it was the timing belt (but that was loud and persistent!).

Just bought from OPC so it has been given the full check very recently.

Thanks
A.

Congrats on your new CS, and welcome!

It may be the transmission you are hearing - it produces a pretty noticeable mechanical whir at lower rpms (especially in 1st and 2nd gear), but as you note, gets drowned out by the exhaust note when you put your foot in it.

A. Take it back to your dealer and ask the question.

Unfortunately It's difficult to understand exactly what noise you've got without actually hearing it……
