A sad day..
This was a much harder decision than I expected, but I've reluctantly decided to sell the best car I've ever owned: 2.7 Sport (PASM, S/Chrono, 6 Speed) West Sussex UK - Cayman Classifieds
I've stopped using the car everyday, and with two small (but growing) and car-mad sons my weekend 'fun' car needs to be able to take both of them. Of course, my problem is finding anything as good as the Cayman to drive; a recent test of a 997 C4S cab was extremely dissapointing.
Please PM me if anyone is interested in a Cayman with the best enthusiasts spec. in the best colour.

Re: A sad day..
Is White a color? Sorry to hear that you are selling it, you could always buy another Cayman and split the kids up between the two with you driving one and the wife driving the other. Everyone wins that way!

Re: A sad day..
Sorry to hear this, mate.
So what are you going to chop it in for? That is one tough decision. Err, why a C4s Cab??!!?? Hardly the enthusiasts choice. Why not justa plain jane C2S with X51 kit and Sports Pack (lowered and LSD)??
How about a new S4? They look pretty good, and have had decent "drivers" reviews. Or the new TTRS out later in the year?
By the way, have you had your wheels painted black? How much did you pay, if you don'e mind me asking?

LSD - Limited Slip Differential
|
 |
A limited slip differential (LSD) is a modified or derived type of differential gear arrangement that allows for some difference in rotational velocity of the output shafts, but does not allow the difference in speed to increase beyond a preset amount. In an automobile, such limited slip differentials are sometimes used in place of a standard differential, where they convey certain dynamic advantages, at the expense of greater complexity.
The main advantage of a limited slip differential is found by considering the case of a standard (or "open") differential where one wheel has no contact with the ground at all. In such a case, the contacting wheel will remain stationary, and the non-contacting wheel will rotate freely– the torque transmitted will be equal at both wheels, but will not exceed the threshold of torque needed to move the vehicle, thus the vehicle will remain stationary. In everyday use on typical roads, such a situation is very unlikely, and so a normal differential suffices. For more demanding use however, such as driving off-road, or for high performance vehicles, such a state of affairs is undesirable, and the LSD can be employed to deal with it. By limiting the velocity difference between a pair of driven wheels, useful torque can be transmitted as long as there is some friction available on at least one of the wheels.

I live on the south coast so a cab has some attraction, especially if I can carry the boys in the back. The C4S was the only demo the OPC had.
There's a right up on my blog here: The Car List Blog: Compromised Position
I've read good reports on the current model 997. I suspect Porsche have had to up their game because the oposition is getting close and the brilliance of the Cayman's chassis has moved the goal posts. Also, 10 years after the 996 launch, they've finally ditched that unreliable engine. I'm going to try and find a gen2 997 3.6 with 18" wheels to try, for me its the purist model in the range. IMO too many people equare 'more' with 'better', wheels sizes are an example of this.
I had the wheels done by SL Restorations, the official Porsche bodyshop for Sussex. I paid ~£300, but didn't want a bodge job, and they were powdercoated, not painted in a satin metallic black. I masked and painted the crested centres myself, using some Halfords paint - they match perfectly!
I've had good responses to the ad, someone's coming to look at the car tomorrow. Which is a real shame as I don't want ot gone!

PS Could never drive a car called tittie arse!!

Yup, 3 days, and it went to the first serious buyer for the asking price (which was clearly too low! ). I'd really planned a long, slow selling process so I cold enjoy it on warm tarmac again, but in many ways a quick separation is less painful. Funny how when I bought it the OPC told me white would be a problem when I came to sell.....
Actually, the buyer's a sound bloke who works for one of the UK's best known specialist sports car manufacturers as an engineer. He'd always promised himself a Porsche and knew a good one when he saw it.
Anyway if he ever sells I've got first refusal.
