Come on peeps. Thoughts and ideas?

I've never done a track day and as bedford is close to me I'd be up for that. Although I'd appreciate some tution or someone with some experience under their belt giving me some advice beforehand.

Steven, don't worry about it, it's called experience, and once you've done it once.....you've got it, experience that is.
Jack fancy Anglesey again, I thought it was "mint" last year

I have been told recently that Anglesey has been resurfaced and the rates for hiring the track for yourselves is quite reasonable.
There is also an interesting track in the Eifel mountains the Germany(!) that some of you may fancy; and this year for 30euros you can do 10 laps of the F1 curcuit on certain dates.
Incidentally hope you lot are all ok!

re: Cayman Track Day - Silverstone Tue 4th Aug 2009
Well, I went to a Bedford Autodrome track evening on Thursday organised by Motor Sport Vision. I've never taken part in a track event before and therefore was pretty apprehensive about what to expect.
Whilst I wasn't quick, I certainly got a taste for what the car is capable of and built some confidence.
The staff were fantastic, briefing was excellent, and the Ł25 for half-hours tuition was superb value for money.
If anyone else is thinking about going on a track day then I'd highly recommend this site and getting some training - you won't be dissappointed.
Regards
Steven

re: Cayman Track Day - Silverstone Tue 4th Aug 2009
Hi Steve,
Glad you liked it. Bedford was my first trackday too, also in my Cayman. Loved it and think it is by far the best place to get a feel for trackdays, how they work, and what to expect out of your car and yourself. Glad you got some tuition too. Good call, although, from experience, the instruction at Bedford is more track biased (where to brake, where to turn, where to put on the power etc) rather than anything like driver focused. That is what you really nead, and what will make a huge difference to the whole experience.
So, any more thoughts on date and venue? Anyone seen anything that takes their fancy?
Karel? Do you still have some fingers in some pies on this one??
Jack

OK, so I'm going to give it one last go
Does anyone have ANY preference for a Cayman-Based day of track fun?
Anybody want to have a scour of the Trackday organisers and pick some dates or venues?
Come on people, the sun is out, the tracks are dry, so where's your enthusiasm gone?
Karel, you haven't even had the Yellow peril on track this year yet have you?

I Went to ZandVoort (Netherlands) On A Porsche Club NL - Meet...... Close to My GrandFather's House.............. A Short While Ago...... Wonderful to Run My 'Home' Track....
'Yellow Peril' = Hot and Rocking.............. (Shame the Driver is Past The - 'Sell By' Date!)
I Was Working On Donington (Porsche Day) - But Problems Recently Have Shown the Organisation - Somewhat Lacking - I Don't Want to Stump Up a Deposit (For the Whole Day) Where Possibly I Can Loose Out.
Donington is Perhaps, in 'Melt-Down' - May Cost the British GP.....
Discussing With MSV Bedford - Porsche Day - As I Organised in the Past...
Happy For Other Suggestions................
Anglesey is Wonderful - But Too Far, Too Remote - For Most......
Central England - So We Can Get Maximum Numbers Out....
Yes, I Organised All the Other Meets...... Sorry I am Failing Now......
The 'Yellow Peril' Wants to Track Again..... (Just Enough Tread Left on the Tyres!)

OK - Here Goes
Talking With Allan - It Seems That Many Are Unsure About Taking their Cayman onto the Track - Many Are Unsure About Their Own Driving Skills on the Track.
An Idea!
Silverstone Full Grand Prix Circuit - Tuesday 4th August.......
(I already did the South Circuit Last Year - That is used for Porsche Carrera Cup, Formula Ford & BTCC Races)
It is an Open Pit Lane - Limited Event - With Only 30 Cars @ Ł350
With the Possibility to Have 2 Additional Drivers Per Car (Total 3 Drivers)
Talking with Allan (Tess Tickle) - The 'Silver Bullet' and the 'Yellow Peril' Fancy the British Grand Prix Circuit ....
(And I Can Practice the Track on 'Forza Motorsport' With My Son's XBox 360!)
We Would Be Happy to Have 2 Additional Drivers Each, to Share the Costs; Also We Would Give Driving/Track Tuition, and Let Cayman Owners, Who Are Unsure About Tracking Their Own Cars - Or Driving on the Track. The Experience of The British Grand Prix Circuit in 'Sorted' Caymans..............
We Can Also Book Additional Non- Driving Passengers..........
Please Can You Chime In - And Express Your Interest, as We Will Need to Book the 2 Slots...........
A Full Day Experience - One Allan & I Will Relish...............
(We Can Remember When We Were Young and Slim - Like Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton!)
And Before Anyone Asks - Allan is the One Going Off to the Greek Islands - to Top Up His Tan........! And I'm Still Wondering - If I Need a Shave this Week..........?

LSD - Limited Slip Differential
|
 |
A limited slip differential (LSD) is a modified or derived type of differential gear arrangement that allows for some difference in rotational velocity of the output shafts, but does not allow the difference in speed to increase beyond a preset amount. In an automobile, such limited slip differentials are sometimes used in place of a standard differential, where they convey certain dynamic advantages, at the expense of greater complexity.
The main advantage of a limited slip differential is found by considering the case of a standard (or "open") differential where one wheel has no contact with the ground at all. In such a case, the contacting wheel will remain stationary, and the non-contacting wheel will rotate freely– the torque transmitted will be equal at both wheels, but will not exceed the threshold of torque needed to move the vehicle, thus the vehicle will remain stationary. In everyday use on typical roads, such a situation is very unlikely, and so a normal differential suffices. For more demanding use however, such as driving off-road, or for high performance vehicles, such a state of affairs is undesirable, and the LSD can be employed to deal with it. By limiting the velocity difference between a pair of driven wheels, useful torque can be transmitted as long as there is some friction available on at least one of the wheels.
