TPC In the UK.

Wanted to let everyone know that our first Cayman Turbo Kit is about to be installed in the UK... As soon as the order has been completed and shipped out I will spill the details with shop info and contacts. Let me know if you are interested.

Very interested also, looking to be joining the club very soon.

Casey, i know you don't want to name names yet, but is it a member of this forum, or are they an existing UK based Porsche specialist?

thanks

mark

Re: TPC In the UK.

thats interesting

i'm lucky having access to my own shop, but for most in the UK this could be the difference between being able to have the turbo and not

as part of my deliberations over the TPC kit i did at one point consider approaching one of the Porsche specialists over here to see if they would be interested in fitting it. I thought instead of tieing up one of our ramps for days on end it may make economic sense.
A specialist who works on porsches everyday would be able to fit it quicker than me and one of my mechanics, who work on all sorts of different cars and porsche's only occasionally. so paying them may cancel out the effect of lost revenue from the downtime for one of our ramps, if that makes sense.

but i figured most specialists would not want to be involved in this in case of complications etc.
i know that if some guy off the street walked into us and asked us to fit a turbo kit to car from an after market manufacturer (particularly if we had never heard of or had any dealings with the company involved), we would have quickly turned it down due to the many complications that could arise and cars stranded on ramps etc.
Unless business was very slow i would weigh it up and conclude that our time could be employed on more straight forward run of the mill servicing/repairs etc

i remember when i started a thread on here about the TPC kit asking if anyone had one in the UK. No one did and most replies from Uk based members were advising me to steer away from this till untill at the very least TPC had an agent in this country. I also got a very dismissive and somewhat nasty response on BOXA net, the uk based boxster forum
It didn't put me off it has to be said and i was incouraged to press ahead by testomony from folks who had the kit.

Maybe i am more gung ho that the typical British reserve, or perhaps its more true to say the knowledge i had my own facility/equipment to put things right if they went wrong gave me a degree of comfort most don't have.

However the thread replies were a good indication of how members over here felt about the kit and the lack agent backup in the country, if they had trouble installing it or problems with it after installation.

i was hoping to place an order for one myself this week, was emailing Tom at TPC about this last week, however for one reason or another i never found the time.

At least i can maybe still be the first Boxster in the UK with it!

and who knows if TPC are working with a respected Porsche specialist over here and the Kit takes off i will have the last laugh with regard to the disparaging remarks i got over on BOXA net and as the old saying goes he who laughs last, laughs the loudest!
