Sorry for the down time...

Trying to determine if it was the site or the ISP making some changes, but anyway site is back up. I was also on the road when it happened so response times were probably delayed because of it. My sincerest apologies to those on the way to Croctoberfest who may need the site for updates, such as gas updates, etc. I have been told the new storage network is in at the ISP and once that goes online our server gets upgraded and moved over to new equipment and this problem "should" go away.

Not complaining, just curious... why does this site suffer from more downtime than any other site I visit regularly? It certainly isn't the busiest. Is this a problem that could be solved by throwing money at it, or are most of the problems software-related?

We typically need a server reset once a month, don't know how often other sites you visit need to be reset. All the money in the world won't fix it, we simply haveto wait until a new storage upgrade is in place at the ISP and then they will port us over to the new hardware. Something in the old hardware fails about once a month and they haven't been able to track it down, hence they are going to move us over, it has just taken longer to do so because the storage network is custom built by Fujitsu and they had some problems getting it to clear customs or something then with the setup which is going on right now, I hope that means we get ported over soon...

As far as the software goes it is all Linux/Apache/PHP stuff and everyone raves about how good that stuff is...

BTW the site has 2M+ page views a month running off 1 single server.

So the problem is server hardware that fails about once per month? That explains it.

I have no practical experience with web servers, and I don't know what your hardware configuration consists of, so I don't know how to judge 2M page views as a workload. If it were evenly distributed over 30 days that would less than one per second, though I'd guess view traffic has a non-uniform distribution.

Thanks for the information.
