Why doesn't every model have such a great site?
I'm considering trading my 2004 Cayenne TT (not my Cayman) for a 2008 BMW 335iX. So, I go out to the various BMW forums and learned...what an amazing site this is. Ken and all the moderators keep the dialog at an adult level, and things are well categorized and pretty easy to find. I have to say now, as much as this site was a godsend when researching the Cayman purchase, other brands and models are leaving sales on the table because the forums related to their models are weak or off-putting. I'd go so far as to say that if there was a 3-series site anywhere near as good as CC.net, I'd have almost no trepidation about pulling the trigger.
As with all things, there are good posts and bad in the BMW forums, and there are probably a majority of good-hearted and honest people. But the language and the tone of many of the posts is just hard to swallow.

Reason: added model year to CTT

Re: Why doesn't every model have such a great site?
This is as much a moment in time as it is a place.
I hate to say it, but once you can buy a used Cayman for $30k or less, you might see a change in the tone around here. I saw it happen with the E36 BMW forum I used to frequent.
Until then, it will be a great neighborhood. :-)

Frankly, most other forums aren't this good because I don't belong to them.

Nice to hear. It's post like this that take the edge off of some of the stress that we go through as moderators.

You're probably right. As cost of acquisition drops, keeping this place mature will become increasingly more difficult. But if we all stay together, members and moderators, and not tolerate a drop in maturity, we can keep the quality up.

Re: Why doesn't every model have such a great site?
Who is to say that I won't open up more sites for more models? If we are successful here then there is no reason why we couldn't be successful using the same model for this site for various other models.
More on that soon....

Re: Why doesn't every model have such a great site?
Having a BMW 335i and going to those sites, I understand exactly what you are saying.
I think the key is the people involved: Ken, moderators, posters. Clearly this is one of if not the classiest site (I haven't been to the Bugatti site )
As long as all involved insist on the current high level of interaction, we will set a model for newbies to follow and won't degenerate.
