Question Regional Discussion Forums Question - Please give me your Opinion!

Ok now that our regional forums are settling in, I have a question that I'd like to pose about how and where they will be displayed.

Currently these forums are Cayman specific, such as Cayman UK, Cayman Europe, Northeast Caymans, etc.

As we move forward with the launch of our Boxster and Panamera sites it strikes me that owners of those models would like to have regional discussion forums as well. Let's say the new Panamera owners in the Northeast want to get together and do a drive, they might want to talk about it in a Northeast Panamera forum.

I really see that I have 2 choices, possibly 3.

1) I can create all new regional forums for the Boxster and for the Panamera and have those display on their respective websites. If you want to attend a Boxster event in the Northeast you head over to BoxsterBoard.Com and post in that forum, etc.

2) I can remove the Cayman-specific titles for the regional forums and make those forums encompass all Porsche models, they are simply regional in nature. So if the Boxster owners in the Northeast want to have a rally they could post it in the Northeast forum and that forum would show up on all 3 websites - Boxster, Panamera and Cayman. Posting in that forum on any one of the 3 sites would make it also show up on the other two sites.

The third option takes more work, but I could conceivably have forums laid out as in option 2 above, but underneath the Northeast Forum I could have sub-forums for each model, so on the Cayman site someone would see the Northeast Forum and 1 sub-forum, Northeast Cayman Talk, over on the Boxster site someone would see the same Northeast Forum, but they would see Northeast Boxster Talk. The primary or parent forum would be seen across all 3 sites, the sub-forum would be seen on the respective subject matter sites only. Technically this is a little harder to do and I'm not sure there would be enough message traffic in any specific model sub-forum to warrant it being created. I am also not certain that owners of one model would really intend to exclude owners of other models from attending their events which happen to be in the same region.

Long story short, I wanted to put this out to our members for dicussion before making a final decision on how to proceed since the other two sites are almost 100% functional, in fact the forums have been and members can now visit the other forums directly via links in each respective forum, give it a try!

I vote for option #2. Make is easy on yourself!

We've been very successful this past year in the Northeast with gatherings where the majority of the cars are Caymans, but we've also had GT3's Ferraris, BMW, Lotus, Subi, Mini Coopers, etc. I think we had one Carrera show up, they don't seem to like us for some reason.

We welcome all car nuts and potential owners.

That's my take at least.

Re: Regional Discussion Forums Question - Please give me your Opinion!

Only my opinion, but apart from sponsors etc, Guys with Caymans want to talk to Cayman owners Boxster owners would want to talk to Boxster owners etc, Yes I know there is an overlap and some items would be beneficial to both, but overall keep Cayman to Cayman, Boxster to Boxster etc Should people wish to talk to all they should then have the facility to be part of the group….not dissimilar to now. Again only my opinion. Otherwise it could get complicated and maybe a little messy

Tess I don't doubt that Cayman owners want to talk to Cayman owners, etc. and that is why we have and will always have discussion areas solely related to the Cayman. I am speaking in terms of the regional/geographic centric forums where people from the same area will talk about things of interest in their area, whether that be a vendor, an event, etc.

Re: Regional Discussion Forums Question - Please give me your Opinion!

Any solution is fine by me as long as there is a Cayman area where I do not know that Panameras or Boxsters exist nor am exposed to any such related geographical events.

Though, if the desire hits me, a "hot" button to jump from a Cayman Club forum to the Panamera or Boxster equivalent area would be cool.

I suppose I lean to option 1, not a fan of subforums in general, too much granularity. Better to re-organize at a contextual level.

Option 2 gets my vote. Easier on all parties involved really.

Go with option 2. If it's a Cayman gathering, that will be in the title, and we always welcome other models.

Other options would clutter the site with forums and require seperate coordinators for each model.

Yes I am with option #2 we have had great events with a mix of cars; Remember that slightly PCA saying: "It's not about the cars it's about the people" ?

I vote for option 2. Let's not separate ourselves into a lot of smaller groups.

I would go for option 2. I like mixing with other cars. Obviously all the other non-regional Cayman stuff will stay Cayman specific, so that is a good combination.

It's looking like the '2s' have it (so far).

I vote option 2, but it would be nice if you could somehow make it clear for new users and for existing users that have not been paying attention that those particular areas are for all three boards. That way a cayman club member is not surprised when someone from the boxster board or panamera board respond to their posts.

Yep we chose #2 and I am open to suggestions on how to educate users that those forums are cross-site.
