Re: New File Added: DYNO RESULTS

I liked the article. I was wondering when you do your next test can you try out snork vs. de-snork on your metering equipment as well as an EVO maxflo intake vs. regular filter and see what sort of figures you get there as well.

I was thinking the other night it might be cool to make a new hatch that has a scoop on top and some tubing to run air straight down into the intake.

Re: New File Added: DYNO RESULTS

Thank you for taking the time to collect and post the data. The effort is appreciated.

I do question the comparison though (I know, here we go). Your baseline was taken with 94 octane fuel at 109 F and the final run was taken with 104 Octane at 61F.

10 Octane (spark advance?) and a temp delta of 48F could be a whole lot of HP independent of modifications.

Thoughts?

Cheers,

Cheers,
It would be standard practice to apply SAE corrections for the atmosperic conditions - it would be strange if these were NOT applied, but it's a fair question.

In my conversations with Softronics about the effect of octane, Scott has indicated that there are dimishing returrns after about 96 octane. But, again, a good question.

The output is supposed to be corrected to a standard temperature and pressure. I will follow up with Dyno Dynamics to make sure that I understand the data, but I believe that these gains are not aided by the substantial temperature difference. There will be some improvement from the 104 octane fuel, but that is part of the "mod"; the ECU flash will use at least some of the higher octane of race gas. Since it is readily available here, I use it whenever I need to go fast.

On the track data posted, I ran sets with full stock intake (stock filter and snorkel) versus free flow (FL green filter, de-snork). The filter change gave .1 PSI improvement, de-snork gave .2 PSI, but significantly there is now no pressure drop from the filter to outside the car, so no more "de-snork" improvement can be made.

I would be happy to try other filters, to see if they are better. Right now, drop across filter is .3 PSI.

I also plan to make a rickybobby scoop to attach to the side intake grill frame, to see if there is any measurable "ram air" effect. The data logging available from Durametric that Fort woke me up to will be the next thing I try. I am inferring greater flow due to pressure changes. If the Durametric will record MAF output, this will allow direct measurement of the improvement.

Re: New File Added: DYNO RESULTS

So if I understand your results correctly, the .2 drop was eliminated by de-snorking which had a higher impact than just switching air filter elements. This also "proves" that de-snorking is "good" for the car in terms if improving horsepower potential and as you say might be a relatively modest gain like 4-5hp, but at least it is a gain. Someone was claiming a HP loss recently (with no data to back it up I might add) by de-snorking so I think it is pretty clear that de-snorking helps.

I think the ram air scoop idea is a good one just to see if it does create a benefit. If it does, then you'll probably see more of those scoop style side vents out there. Are you buying an existing one and testing or fabricating a makeshift one of your own?

That was Scott Slausen, a highly credible source in my opinion. He posted that in his development testing of the SRP package that he obtained the best results with the stock air filter and with the snorkle in. However, facelvega's results are pretty compelling, and in accordance with my own expectations (based on many years of fluid dynamics experience and training).

Farnbacher Loles make one or did. Indeed they claim an improvement:

Farnbacher Loles - Parts Center

I don't know how much they cost though.
