"Click this bar to view the full image"

What happened to the old image resizing functionality? Having the images forced to open in a new tab is annoying.

Can we go back to how it was?

+2 I thought it was my web browser at first. I definitely love and prefer the old way.

Re: "Click this bar to view the full image"

Please tell me what the old way was.

I think you are confusing 2 different things.

1) When you attach an image as an attachment to a message, it is auto-resized to a thumbnail and when you click that thumbnail it comes up in the lightbox. That hasn't changed, that works the way it always has.

2) When you include or embed an image using image [IMG] tags in the past it didn't do anything but put the image in whatever size it happened to be, it could have been 5,000 pixels by 5,000 pixels and it would have pushed your browser window way out and you would have had to scroll left and right, up and down, to see the image and/or try to read the topic thread. Do you know how many complaints I got about that?

What the new functionality does is take #2 above and automatically resize it so that it is a standard size and doesn't push the pages of the forum all out of whack. If you want to see the full sized image you only need to click the top bar. If you don't then you can look at the medium resolution images and continue reading the topic thread.

I'm not really sure what you are asking to go back to, other than super large images that make your scroll.

If I'm missing something please elaborate, but I don't think I am...

You are.

Take this thread for example: http://www.planetporsche.net/cayman-...line-bump.html

The embedded pictures (not attached, I have no complaints with that system), are scaled down to puny dimensions. Previously, clicking on the yellow bar above the image would expand it to its original size. Currently, it opens a new tab/window.

Double checking this just now, the behavior is changed. The image now resizes in the original window. Keep it this way.

I think you may be confusing our site with some other site that uses the same feature because we haven't changed anything here. It is either that, or some mystery gremlins in the ether...

Betting on gremlins. Don't bullshit, Ken. Vbulletin isn't magic.

We shall have poll!

Muahahaha

Just kidding, it's fine. I'll just have to adapt, seeing that it got to the point that many complained. Oh well

I'm not "bullshitting" this isn't vbulletin but a mod/hack added to vbulletin and one that worked fine for 3.7.x versions but has some issues for 3.8.x versions and hasn't been updated by the author. I haven't done anything to it since installing it because the running train of thought on the site where I got it from says not to mess with configuring it or you might break it. Sounds like it is having some issues, but I really have the choice of either leaving it as it is, or removing it hence I haven't been changing it.

Maybe you were "right-clicking" on the image and selecting "View Image" which will open the pic in a new tab.

BTW, the first post in that thread is great for demonstrating the different behavior of uploaded vs. embedded photos, as Ken described - since it has both types.

My only (minor) gripe is that I don't think we need the little exclamation warning icon on the bars - I find it visually distracting.

I'll take your word for it then. This is the only site of several (far too many, really) I visit that has seen this behavior change. Perhaps the others are running standard code, or more updated code or whatever.

Re: "Click this bar to view the full image"

At least using Firefox something did change in the last few days. As late as last Thursday when I clicked the resize bar a new tab opened up with the image. Now the image expands in the same window within the post.

I love the way it works now.

We have the most up to date vbulletin, 3.8.1 PL1 running here, so it could be they are running the 3.7.x code base which doesn't have whatever issues the new codebase has.

Anyway people seem to like the way it works now so again, I'm not touching it until the author comes back and updates it for 3.8.x

I would be nice with an option to turn it off, though. No updates on the way?

I have not seen any updates and if you were to turn it off then when someone uploads a photo that is say 3000 pixels wide (not uncommon btw) it blows your browser out left and right and you would have to scroll all around. I will check again on updates though it has been a few weeks since I last checked.

Re: "Click this bar to view the full image"

I agree with Ken. There are a lot of varying computer skills among our members, and quite often folks will post a picture that's 3,200 pixels wide which really messes up the vBulletin screen. I really like the picture resizer. I only wish it would drop to something bigger than 400 px wide. I'd like to see a width of 640 pixels. 400 just kicks the heck out of some pictures, and makes small pictures (480 px wide) look like junk when it resizes them down 8%.

Re: "Click this bar to view the full image"

Ok there is not an updated version of this add-on but I did go ahead and go in and tweak some of the settings to allow users to set their OWN default resize settings. You can do that here:

http://www.planetporsche.net/profile.php?do=editoptions

Look for Image Resizer Settings.

Please note that the title bar is not displaying the image dimensions but rather is displaying %1, %2, %3. I have sent a support request into the developer to see if they can help rectify that.

Re: "Click this bar to view the full image"

No problem, we know what is causing the %1, %2 etc. but haven't developed a fix just yet, everything else should be fine though...
