Question Garage 'Meltdown'

Well I'd thought it would happen; The 'Garage', or to point the finger more accurately the 'Modifications' is in meltdown.

What started as an accurate diatribe of modifications actually fitted to an individuals car has now become a 'mod total' war!

So tell me how many plenums, sets of wheels, sets of wheel spacers, clear engine covers, center caps etc can someone fit to a car at anyone time?

Even I played the game for a while, yes I to have a 'wheel hanger'.

Should members now fit 3M bras piece by piece to gain more 'mods' (It is already happening btw), should I also list the Snap-on torque bar in the trunk plus all of my tools (Including a 'Jack Pad' and 'Center cap removal tool' of course), oh and then there is the PIWIS that the local members know is always in the trunk?

I know originally there was going to be a 'Active Mod' facility which would more accurately reflect a members car but can we also send out a message to all before it gets much worse?

Re: Garage 'Meltdown'

Yeah we need to lay down some rules, the goal is for members to be able to find modifications they are interested in and information about those mods from their owners as well as the source for the modification.

I agree that listing piece by piece each clear bra item is ridiculous, simply listing that you have a clear bra and where it came from is enough to inform other members of what it is and where to get it. Likewise a center cap removal tool isn't a mod, it is a tool, the same way craftsman wrench used to take off a lug bolt is also just a tool.

What I will do at this point is to ask members to voluntarily remove these items from their garage profiles. If they aren't removed by April 20th then management here will start removing them.

I am also going to ask that anyone who entered a business go back and put in the details about that business such as address, phone #, website, hours of operation etc. I tried to do that with all the businesses I entered but I see several now that are just names. How does that help other than a name, if another member wants to contact that business to purchase something or ask a question it would be MUCH more helpful if the phone number, website and other information was listed.

The goal is to help other members and to give members a place to document the individuality of their cars.

I'll have to get this listed in the next newsletter for certain, but meanwhile let's start the clean-up ASAP!

Re: Garage 'Meltdown'

Well talk about meltdowns, I went in and removed some of the bogus products and now a bunch of photos don't link properly and show up as Red X's. I have contacted the software manufacturer and hopefully they can develop a fix for whatever the problem is. I guess if people hadn't loaded up a bunch of bogus mods and I hadn't gone in trying to fix it we wouldn't be in this mess now... ugh... Happy Easter...

Great followup response, thanks, and btw I have now removed my 'Wheel Hanger Tool' from my list of modifications.

Re: Garage 'Meltdown'

Well I was able to get the web host to restore the images that were somehow accidentally deleted by the software so that's a good thing, and there is a new version of the software being released this week hopefully that will add some new features and capabilities. I'm hoping one of them is a switch on each mod as to whether it is ON your car (active) or not. For example we have a member with 7 different wheel spacers listed, obviously they aren't all on his car at one time so there should be a way to flag "active" vs. purchased modifications, and I'm hoping that will make it in the next version.

Re: Garage 'Meltdown'

You guys shouldn't approve mods that you don't think are mods then. Thats why you have an approval process.

I removed all my crappy "mods". Hopefully my example will lead others to do the same.

The Porsche Center Cap Removal tool is just as much a mod as say: BootheDesign SoftSocket, a Porsche Triangle, Umbrella, First Aid kit, or Flashlight. These are not mods for your car. They are just stuff you keep in your car.

If its not attached to your car... its not a mod. Just saying.

Ken
All the companies that i've added I added all the details for. If you would let me I would gladly research the missing info for companies that were incorrectly added. I could also help out in the approval process so things like the center cap removal tool (i'm the guilty party) don't get approved in the first place.

Looking forward to the next Garage upgrade.

Re: Garage 'Meltdown'

I removed all my 'psuedo-mods' like the Boothe Design Wheel Hanger, Soft Socket and Jack Pad as I agree with JCay that they are tools and other minor mods that I only briefly tried out.

As a suggestion, perhaps categorizing 'mods' versus 'tools' versus 'accessories' might help as well as a simple way to list custom wheel/trim/body paint work.

Re: Garage 'Meltdown'

Thanks for cleaning up some guys. I'll see if the new version will allow us a separate category for "tools" but I suspect that it won't, but maybe I can develop a work-around or something. It is possible to add products to the database without them being listed as a modification to your car. With regard to the approval process I am guilty there as well because at times I am just flying through checking off Yes without looking at it in more detail, so I need to spend more time doing it or get an assistant, which is also something I need to see if the new version allows for.
