is it possible to optimize this place for 1024 width?

i just saw an old thread by K-Man where he asked about 1024. for some reason my netbook (Asus 1000HE) shows the site off a little at standard resolution (i have to scroll sideways). the issue goes away when i reduce the font size but the blue bars on the side are annoying and i'm not getting the full screen plus now i have to look closer at the smaller fonts.

in standard mode i see a blue bar on the left (does the same even if i go to full screen in Google Chrome), if i reduced the font i see blue bar on both left and right side...like this to be fixed if possible.

What browser are you using?

I am on OSX with Firefox 3.0.10 and the great thing about the new Firefox is that you can set zoom with command, +/- to whatever you want and firefox remembers the setting for any pages from the domain and keeps the setting everytime you come back to the page.

Google Chrome, as mentioned in the original post.

I can ctrl plus or minus and get it to fit (look at the pics) but I prefer not to reduce the size so I can read. No issues with my unibody MB but I prefer my netbook that Apple and Jobs said they don't know how to make, and the screen resolution is only 1024x600.

It may be the site issue, I just need the site to fully utilize the 1024 pixels and not more.

Oh yeah, sorry. I didn't catch that, I'm not too up with the Windows stuff.

I also have a Dell Mini 9 hackintoshed up to run OSX. There again Firefox works fine because the zoom function is now independent of the text zoom function.

That's all I got. Sorry.

Standard resolution for 1024 width is 768 heigth, maybe that's why it's off a little.

Re: is it possible to optimize this place for 1024 width?

it's still weird that my screen is 1024 wide and yet it acts as if the site is wider than that.

here's another site's forum that fits just about perfect.

i checked with IE just in case there were something screwy with the HTML (won't be the first time), but IE did exactly the same...and height (600 or 768) shouldn't matter in this case as it's the width that's causing me trouble, and it would seem that the blue bar area is the culprit (not dynamically resizing or maybe the HTML is calling for a minimum width?)

I don't think it is going to because while the left and right columns on the home page are fixed width (I think around 180 pixels each) the center column is allowed to expand depending upon what content is in it and some photos, etc. push it outwards. The person to email and ask is James at jdtate@princeton.edu but the last time I asked him he said there wasn't anything he could do, but perhaps you can work directly with him to see if there is.

Re: is it possible to optimize this place for 1024 width?

For those using 1024x768 please scroll down to the bottom of the page and choose the "Cayman" style from the style chooser drop down box. Let me know if this fixes your issue with 1024 width.

Thx!

It does for me. Please do whatever you did to the Boxster style. Thanks.
