A little more on this discussion now that the cars are being shown, this clip at 3:05 talks about cars headed to North America, although this is not official, it is promising, and shaves off some weight!

I heard Andreas Preuninger say that the exhaust is optimized with partical filter, restrictive it is, and therefor other parts are less restrictive. Buttt, the exhaust is also optimized for its airflow combined with the new diffuser.
And yes, NA will be different

It is my understanding that the exhaust was designed to provide the necessary center space for a proper diffusor to be implemented on these cars, it (the exhaust) however is not an active component in the cars aero.

As for the exhaust itself, the OPF as required for the EU is certainly a factor in the design, flow and sizing of the other exhaust components, and as AP stated it allowed the team to use less restrictive components in other parts of the system because of this. As we know exhaust flow directly influences the engine's ability to produce power, if they simply remove the OPF for the NA market and the ECU is designed to compensate for the increased flow we might well see a measurable increase in HP.

Interesting question, I am sure the after market companies like Fabspeedicon and Akrapovic can't wait to get a car to measure things up, sure to save weight and increase HP... at a cost of course!

I guess it depends on the jurisdiction you have to license in, many test for sound levels and that all emissions related items remain in place and fully functional, and it would seem that the EU companies are really playing hardball on this?

Re: 718 GT4 Options (What Will It Be)

it depends, EU regulations is only one thing, local restrictions are another.
I’ve a car that has EU approval on its exhaust, that took me 4 months to get approved in Belgium (car was brandnew from factory, the exhaust was Akrapovic and TÜV approved but not GOCA (belgium thing), and street legal it is after the 4 months of (mainly) paperwork. But, on a Belgium track (Spa), it’s not allowed, only 97 dBA. Only on specials days street-legal cars are allowed to go until 107 dBA.

But this 982 would be silent as a Tesla off course. 718 GT4 Poll (What Will It Be)

I can't speak to the 718 GT4, but the U.S. spec 992s have an inert substrate to simulate the backflow pressure provided by the gram particulate filters. No one has tested a U.S. spec 992 yet so the effect has not been determined.

Motor Trend had an article testing the 992 this week. They noted the 992 S has some torque loss down low compared to the 991.2 GTS. It resulted in a pretty significant difference in the 5-60 times of the 991.2 GTS versus the 992 S. Meaning the 991.2 GTS was faster. They speculated the gram particulate filter might be the issue and said they were looking forward to testing a U.S. spec car to see if there is a difference.
