    Tail Light Removal

I removed my tail light assembly today while searching for the backup light wire. It didn't occur to me until I had the light assembly out that the backup light is the clear LED light center mounted under the spoiler.

Here are the pictures I took.

One bolt hold the light in place. It is behind a rubber plug.

This is the tail light cavity:

The bottom of the light. Note the two tabs and the push pin at the rear (front of photo)

As Orangecrush stated in his posting the light assembly pulls straight out once the bolt is removed. However, you do need a tool (well padded) hooked around the back of the light assembly to pull it out.

So, you can't pull it out by hand? What tool would you suggest?

Couldn't you just push on the assembly from the bolt hole to start it moving out?

Could you also describe where exactly that bolt is?

    Thanks

The Porsche tech notes say to remove the rubber grommet in the rear wheel arch and push the 'push-pin' from there.

    Re: Tail Light Removal

With a screwdriver if that helps The text says :-

Insert a screwdriver through the opening and position it on the removal surface of the light. Press the light out of the ball socket using a levering motion'

Seems like the other method detailed above works if not

I bet you could just put a suction cup on it and pull.

BINGO! Very good...I did just this and it worked like a charm...hope to have pics for all to see...this looked hard as can be - BUT it is really easy - you need to take care of not scratching the body, etc.

    Re: Tail Light Removal

For mine, all I did was loosen the screw in the trunk almost all the way, then give a good push with the screwdriver on the screw. Super-easy. No wheel removal.

    Re: Tail Light Removal

Great write up. A note for 981 Cayman owners is that you first need to remove the small trim panels (they unsnap) from each side of the trunk in order to see the rubber plugs mentioned. After that it's the same process as described.

We did this today on a Boxster, once the retaiing bolt was out a screw driver through the plug in the rear wheel well and out came the light... just like the manual said!

    Re: Tail Light Removal

Is it possible to re-link or use a different hosting service for the images or is there a PDF of the original installation instructions with the pictures?

    Thanks so much
