Since this is really just a software change, it seems that it should be standard, with a menu option for people to just disable it if they don't like it. Ditto for rev matching.

The upshift light is certainly unnecessary, although I've always assumed this is there to placate some environmental group somewhere.
The upshift indicator is an artifact of the EPA emissions certification process rules and first surfaced long, long ago while I was a Big3 emissions/powertrain planner. At the time, for certification a car was driven on chassis dyno rolls over a specific fixed cycle of speeds and distances while the exhaust is collected for subsequent testing. The EPA driver was required to follow the upshift indicator as he operated the vehicle and tracked required speed and distance (following a line on an external TV screen). Doing so gave the OEM more control over engine speed and throttle use, usually resulting in better, more consistent test results. That a vehicle owner likely would seldom (if ever) follow the upshift indicator was recognized, but in many cases there was a tangible emissions certification benefit for the OEM so the upshift light became part of the emissions related content for specific vehicles.

Why are your wipers running when your car is clean and dry?

Agreed, but having said that there is a way to disable it. I just don't know how. Reason I know this, is when I purchased my car there was no upshift indicator. 2 years later when I brought my car in for some minor auto body repair the upshift indicator suddenly appeared. Now I can't get rid of it...

That's a valid question. It's true that usually the wipers would not be running in such a case. The couple of times this happened, once I activated them manually just to see what would happen (regretted doing that), and the other time the windshield got dirty with some goop or something, so I was trying to clean it off (while driving) with wipers and fluid. I agree that it's not something that occurs often. But both those times, I had washed the car earlier that day.

Maybe they should have made it reconfigurable to a DOWNSHIFT indicator.

Unless you are on the highway, if the indicator is NOT illuminated you should down shift; probably two gears.

bar none the vanity mirror lights...VERY poorly placed in the that there are very bright LED lights on on either side of the mirror so that it blinds anyone that attempts to look in the mirror and if someone is able to look the reflection still remains very dark and essentially unusable...EXCEPTIONALLY poor...

Maybe launch control is the most worthless feature. Did anyone see the Grand Tour clip recently about it? Hilarious.

That's really unlike Clarkson/May/Hammond, making a point which is reasonable and helpful. I agree with them and have made most of the same points myself.

I stick a small thick plastic bag in there. Passenger barf bag. Shouldn't ever have to use it, but that $0 cost option can potentially save a ton of money one day.

    -----

I think an overlooked option if you already have deviated stitching is "steering column covered in leather". When you look forward it's basically the only real plastic you notice. Makes a difference.

For useless options though... definitely a few aesthetic things I had done one-off at special request by Porsche Exclusive. These were basically parts you can't tick a box for in certain configurations, but damned if people haven't noticed them (and ask how I had it done). Though lordy do they charge you for that privilege -- about triple the cost of the part at the parts counter. Only worth it on a dead man's car, and for things that can't easily be done (or are very labor/skill intensive) after the build.

I think you probably have my ideal spec 981, tbh. Red on black GT4 with red accents and the satin wheels...drool. I have black/black with red accents for sort of the same color scheme, but no GT4

I've driven the CS and GT4 back to back and driven with 3.4 CSs at the track (used to have a '14 CS too). I love the GT4 and the 3.8 L engine, big brakes, wing, etc. but the performance differences between the GT4 and CS and GTS are not all that huge.

Sure, but the styling of the GT4 is just too perfect. The hood "gap" especially -- not sure what you GT4 folks call that black strip in front of the hood but above the front bumper.

I think what you are talking about is the air exhaust for the center radiator. Agree, that is cool - the GT3s have it. I saw a thread on the possible GT4 RS - after you get that you can tell me about all of its cool features!

I don't like that at all, plus it makes for an even bigger overhang. Go figure. Ha ha. I was offered a GT4 at MSRP, meaning a lower price than my fully-optioned GTS... and opted for the GTS. Go figure. Ha ha. My main detraction from those cars is the lack of any luxury amenities, that for some bizarre reason Porsche doesn't offer (McLarens, Ferraris, etc. all offer luxury options like parking sensors, memory, nice stereo, etc). They like to make a killing on options, so not offering seems stupid to me. And since I like my sports cars also luxurious, GT cars don't appeal to me. Plus the GT4 is not a true GT car since it has a detuned Carrera S engine, not a motorsports engine, like GT3s. But it's the best performing manual Cayman you can buy for sure. I also got tired of the engine screaming on the highway in 6th, so since Porsche didn't drop the 7-sp on Caymans, opted for PDK this time. Couldn't be happier, even though I'm a manual guy at heart. I didn't want a manual just for the sake of having a manual anymore.
