Good Deal on Tires - Sharing info

I just purchased a full set of the Michelin PSSs for 19" wheels from Tirerack for my 981.

They are discounted right now and there is an additional $70 mail in rebate. Total cost for me was $1009 plus shipping. That's a pretty good deal for these tires.

Thought I would share in case anybody else was interested. I don't need them until about July but I didn't want to miss this pricing so I pulled the trigger.

Thanks [email protected] I gave you credit in the order form.

I saw that deal and thought about it. But .... my local shop was able to order the new PS4's in 20" for $290 each for fronts and $310 each for the rears, delivered. That was such a good deal that I ordered those instead. Should have them in 3-4 weeks.

I would have done the same thing. Those are the tires that I wanted but they are not made for the 19" wheels yet. . Let us know how you like them when you put them on and have some miles with them.

I've had these on an E92 M3 for a month or so and am loving them. Somehow seem more compliant, but grippier at the same time. Haven't had them in any meaningful rain yet, but based on Jim and others reviews expect to be able to really see a difference there as well.

Very timely thread. I need tires on the PBS and have decided to go with the Pilot Sport 4S
I have a thread in tires/wheels but maybe if anybody can direct me to the 981 OEM alignment specs that would be appreciated.

I bought 4 of the PSS about 10 days ago and had them installed last week. Mine are 19". I inquired about the PS4s and was told (can't remember F or R) that PS4 was in stock but the other (either F or R) has no shipping date from Michelin at this time. PS 4 was just a few $ more than the PSS.
As far as rain performance, I have driven in rain 2x since the install and they are much better than the Goodyears that I replaced.
My car is an everyday driver, about 100 miles RT.

Not to dis-credit the PSS in any form or way (because it really is a fantastic tire), but the Continental ExtremeContact Sport is every bit just as worthy as the PSS, if not more so in certain categories (eg. wet performance, tire noise, and price). Grassroot Motorsports has just published a tire test of it against the PSS (along with the RE-71R), and without spoiling it for everyone, the results are *very* interesting.

It is also available for the 19" and 20" wheel sizes.

Unbelievably UPS just dropped off the tires at my home. Less than 24 hours after I ordered them online. Granted one of their distribution centers is about 10 miles from my home which made me wonder why I didn't just go pick them up and save the $62 bucks.

    These things are BIG!

I was also looking at PS4 but availability in 20" is middle of May so debating riding on all seasons for another month or getting ExtremeContact now.

Hope they're not old. Check the DOT code (4 digits, first 2 week of the year, second two digits year) on all 4 to make sure. Most people never think of tire age, but even new tires could be significantly degraded if stored for years, especially without protecting them from ozone (light, electric motors, etc).

Wasn't aware of any max summer tire being quieter than Michelin's PSS. I assume the new 4S could be better, but not necessarily. If that Conti is better than the new 4S, might jump on them instead. Was thinking of getting 245/275 on my wider turbo wheels, but will reconsider that, due to extra drag and height. Will look for that comparison. A link would help. Thanks.

Thanks, I will check. I just assumed that brand new tires would not have an age issue. I never think about tire age because I like to drive so I wear them out long before they would age degrade.....not a garage queen. 33k miles on a 2014 BS and it's just a "fun car".

Here is a link to the Continental ExtremeContact Sport:

    https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...eContact+Sport

According to Andy Hollis of autox & Grassroots Motorsports fame,, the Conti EC Sport is quieter than PSS. However, when the tire is new, it also suffers from a bit of tread squirm.

If you are interested, here is a more thorough review of the EC Sport by MotoIQ:

    TESTED: Continental Tire ExtremeContact Sport
