Question Which one would you choose? 2 BS for sale that I am looking at.

I am in the market for a 981 Boxter S, and for those who are in the market, also know how hard it is to find the right spec, the right deal, and have it happen to be near you. I am looking to track the car, but decided to go with Boxter over the cayman to also enjoy it during the summer with the roof down to replace my recently sold motorcycle. I have two options currently.

    1. 2013 Boxter S for $41K
Pros: Low mileage (15k), Sport Chrono, black on black. PDK (my preference)
Cons: 19" silver wheels (need 20" Carrera wheels IMO or aftermarket), no sport design steering wheel (will install macan wheel), no Porsche Exhaust System, 250 miles away private seller

    2. 2014 Boxter S for 47k

Pros: Very local, 29k Miles (not bad), one year newer, mint condition, Full spec, sport chrono, red seatbelts, gray on black color combo, classic Carrera 20" wheels, clear markers, and the Porsche exhaust system.

Cons: Price, and no sport design wheel but again, I actually prefer the macan wheel and my brother is a Porsche technician so its an easy swap.

So I guess my deciding factor is the 6k difference in the two cars. Is the PSE and the 20" wheels worth the 6k? Or would you go for the lower mileage car, and go aftermarket with the wheels and exhaust? I did not negotiate yet but I dont see them going down more than a $1000.

Option 2. Easily. Ventilated seats and PSE are not something on which I'd compromise.

29K miles is nothing on these cars. I turned 55K miles on my 2015 Boxster GTS last night. Those 55K miles include trips across the country, daily driving, weekend canyon carving, multiple track days, and a lot of autocross. Never experienced so much as a hiccup. I swapped out the OEM brake pads for Pagids. Aside from that I had to replace the center radiator when a nasty piece or road debris pierced it (neither of the ones you are looking at have the center radiator so you wouldn't even have to worry about that).

well I have found two more in the last few hours, a 67k miles one for $32,000 and a 37k miles for $40k but in white which is my optimal spec. Also missing the Ventilated seats and PSE. but they both have the sport design steering wheel. ahh decisions decisions, but those two are basically out now.

Re: Which one would you choose? 2 BS for sale that I am looking at.

19" wheels will give you the less expensive options for tires, especially R-spec tires. My 14'BS came with the 20" Carrera S wheels so I bought a used set of the 19's for <$1k. The reverse would be harder but I do know some people who sold their 20's for 19's to have better choices on tires. Personally track wheels take a beating so buying a dedicated set made a lot of sense to me.

I think the gray is a better color combination - black shows everything.

My big question would be about service history.

Some people may argue with me here, but if you really want to track your car, then you should go with a Cayman. I see very few 981 B or BS's at my track events - I honestly don't think people take me seriously because I chose a Boxster. Overwhelmingly at the porsche events are either 911's (no cabriolets) and Caymans. I understand the increased concern of a roll over even with the factory roll over protection. I've seen some roll overs and avoid thinking about what that would be like in the Boxster.

Lastly, and I cannot verify this but several people complained at Laguna Seca that at WOT the PSE turns on regardless of settings which tripped the sound limit.

I'd go with the 2013. Lower price and miles, plenty of aftermarket wheels and exhausts available...and no red seat belts. Maybe I'm a minority of one, but colored dials are a deal breaker for me (not easily changed and when you do you open yourself up to rattles). Colored seatbelts (which the 2014 has) are also a BIG turnoff, and although they can easily be replaced it's not cheap. YMMV.

My 2016 Boxster GTS is black. So I agree with AJAHEARN, every spec of dust shows up. But it's pretty when it's clean.
I am one those rare 981BS owners that tracks the car,
And I love my red seat belts. With black car, black wheels, black interior, and black roof, the only colors are the red brakes and the red seat belts.

Basically we all have the same basic taste in cars, but very different tastes in accessories / colors / driving intentions. So I do not expect you will get a consensus.

tough choice, 6k difference for PSE, ventilated seats, 20" wheels , better color (easier to maintain) and double the miles. PSE will take 2-3k to swap, steering wheel 1k, wheels prob 2k plus tires since the factory 19" sells about 1k only. Either one doesnt sound like the one, maybe wait a bit more? I personally wouldnt want anything more than 40k miles for a 5-6 year old

Re: Which one would you choose? 2 BS for sale that I am looking at.

Actually went with neither of these, and scooped up a Agate Gray BS 2013, with Carerra S wheels, black interior, sport design wheel, and Sport Chrono. Should be taking delivery of it on Thursday (had it shipped from out of state, too far to drive). It has plenty of miles, but it was very CLEAN and has full 36k/3Yr warranty. I spoke to a Porsche technician during inspection and he said that a car that sits, is worse than a car that is driven but very well maintained. This is a daily driver car, not a exotic.

Lastly, the saving on the initial purchase, will allow me for a GT4 bumper conversion, GTS style taillights, powder coating the silver Carrera S wheels to Satin black, and eventually wrapping the entire car in satin white. Not to mention more funds for the track!

    Thanks!

Here are some pics of my first couple hours with the car, before the transport company picked it up!

As an Agate owner, this is a real head-scratcher.

Enjoy the car - sounds nice!

Why is that? I wanted to get a black/gray so the white wrap would look nice. Is Agate Gray the most popular around here? seems it, but that mod might take place next spring. I love satin white cars.

Congratulations, great looking car. I like the agate gray, maybe add some red seat belts to give it some color inside and hold off on the wrap. I'm with Swifte on the red belts in black interiors.
