    2007 Cayman S sale price?

I might end up having to sell my Cayman, and I'm trying to find a fair price while maximizing how much I can get for it. Specs are:

    2007 Cayman S
    144k miles
    manual
    Sport Chrono
auto climate control (with zero wear on the temp/fan dials)
Bose audio w/aftermarket headunit (Pioneer with Carplay/Android Auto)
    Bi-Xenon w/headlight washers
19" lobster claws (Continentals on all 4 corners, installed new on purchase at 120k)

All oil changes done between 5-7k intervals, as well as a full brake flush/bleed when new rotors were installed.
It was originally a Texas car and now lives in California, so there's no rust or anything to speak of.
The interior is in fantastic condition, and the exterior paint isn't terrible by any means, but it could use a paint correction to really look its best.

Other maintenance/repairs done during ownership include:
    new clutch/RMS
    new rotors/pads
    new tie rods
    new o2 sensors
    new washer tank/motor
new/upgraded door latches on both sides
new lock mechanism in the driver's door
plus new header/cat on driver's side

I'm really hoping that I don't need to sell it, but if I do, I'm trying to find an appropriate price for it. I originally paid 18k for it, and with all the work I've done to it during ownership, I'd like to try and get as much of that back as possible. What do you guys think it would be worth?

Pics would be helpful to gauge the appearance. Otherwise, I would suggest searching the Autotrader and CarGuru sites for similarly optioned cars with similar mileage as yours. That won't give you the selling price but you can gauge which cars are overpriced by how long they'be been sitting unsold. I'd also check ebay for the same reason, but there you can search "completed auctions" and see the actual selling prices of the ones that did sell, or at least the highest bids for those that didn't. GLWS or better yet, good luck with not having to sell.

You can also do an auction price history on cars in Bring a Trailer to see what Caymans have been doing at auction.

My personal opinion is that you may have a hard time breaking $20k as it is an older 987.1 with IMSicon bearing and higher mileage.

Re: 2007 Cayman S sale price?

I buy and sell Porsches as a hobby and have a formula I use to price my cars. It should get you into the ballpark. I calculate NADA value and split the difference between Retail and clean trade-in. This has been a sweet spot number that maximizes my profit and entices a buyer to purchase from a private ind vs going to a dealer. You have to adjust up or down (or both) depending on condition and maintenance. Sound like you have good maintenance but need to work on the condition. I would recommend getting it looking great before selling because no matter how complete your maintenance is, if it doesn't look appealing a potential customer will move on to the next shiny car and buy it instead of yours. Even spending $200-300 for a proper detail will be $$$ well spent. At the very least you can clay bar and wax it. Appearance is 75% of the sale. And if you have to sell, take pictures on a sunny day with a fancy background like a cool house or lake. Don't take a pic on a rainy day or in a crowded garage.

I bought a base 2014 Boxster last Oct. The first pic was the seller's ad main pic. She sure looks sad in the clouds. The 2nd pic is the pic I used (along with many others) in my ad. What a difference in appearance! Hard to believe they're the same car. I sold it in 3 wks, with 1 of those wks prepping the car for sale, including a polish & detail.

Re: 2007 Cayman S sale price?

This is great info, thanks everyone! I didn't think I'd break 20k, but I definitely think I can get closer than I originally thought. NADA prices it at 17k clean trade in, and retail at 20.5, so I'll probably aim for around 18.5k to start and go from there. I'll definitely look into getting her detailed this weekend, partially for my own sake and for the sake of any pictures I take in the process.

It's feeling more and more like I'm going to need to sell. I'll definitely be back in a Cayman at some point, but right now just isn't feasible for me to keep it.

+1 on Huskers comment. Marketing is everything and making the car stand out from otehrs is what counts in advertising! You can also do something like add some low-cost vinyl stripes to make it stand out from other vehicles with even lower mileage. Renndecals.com (no affiliation) has some easy to apply and affordable options for under $300. On a side note, have you considered putting it up for rent on Toro? That may give you some decent cash flow to address feasibility concerns. The maintenance items are great, but the mileage is of course something you can't really correct for.

I'll definitely look into something like the vinyl stripes. As far as Turo goes, it's my daily driver, so I'd only be able to make it available on weekends, but it's something I can look into as well. I worry about something happening to it in that situation, because I've heard mixed results about owners dealing with Turo if/when accidents happen.

Re: 2007 Cayman S sale price?

I think the Turo thing is only something you'd do if you separate yourself from the car emotionally and look at it as a means to get through a tough time, or purely as a business venture. On a side note, I've seen quite a few Caymans for sale when I was in the market for #2 that had replaced the OEM head unit with something 3rd Party (Pioneer, Kenwood, etc). I always passed those by UNLESS the person listed that they have the original head unit; maybe it's a purist thing that others don't give a crap about, but thought I'd give you my "recent buyers" perspective.

I'm actually in the market for what you're looking to sell. I'm located in California as well. If you're interested, please let me know.
