Mild plasticky "click" when lowering top on 2010 987.2 Base

I've been hearing a mild, plasticky sounding "click" when lowering and sometimes raising the top on my 2010 987.2 Boxster Base. The sound occurs just as the lid is about to settle back in place, regardless of raising or lowering the top. I've recently performed some of the 60K service stuff, and had to access the engine from the top to change out the air filter. I thought that I might have failed to reconnect something, but when I looked earlier tonight, everything was buttoned up and attached properly.

Any insights before I take it in to Freed to have it looked at?

    Thanks folks!

So you've confirmed that the steel cables have been reconnected after you had the top in service mode?

Have you checked both convertible top rods to see if they're connected? They're hard to see, so you'll have to look closely. The plastic cap at the end of the rod will break if the top encounters an issue going down or up. The top will work with 1 rod broken but will make a cracking / plastic noise. If 1 is broken, the good one is probably bent as well. Replace them both.

I have a Wheeler Dealer 09 Boxster S that I'm selling. When I bought it, the top would work but make a cracking noise when going up or down. The right rod was broken and bent. I replaced it but before I did, I compared the new one to the left rod that was still in place. It appeared bent too, so I replaced it. Here's a pic comparing my "good" left rod (black end cap) to the new replacement. You can just buy end caps but chances are the rods themselves are bent.

Yep. That was my fear, that I'd forgotten to reconnect one side or the other after being in there. I'll check the push-rods today when I get home and report.

Thanks so much for the reply!

You nailed it Husker; broken plastic ball joint on the drivers side. My local Porsche dealer had the replacement pushrod assembly in stock (shout out to Kenn Young at Hennessy Porsche in Roswell), and price matched Suncoasticon. It took all of twenty minutes to replace.

Top is back to it's original smooth, silent operation.

    Thanks!

You're welcome. Good to hear. Glad you're back in business and you came back with your solution. It helps others who experience the same thing and do a search.
