Tall? How do you fit in your Cayman?

I'm 6'1 with a long torso and feel a bit crunched in a Cayman. Any tips on how to fit better with seat adjustment? Tried a lot of options.

I was more comfortable in the 911 but prefer the feel and handling of the Cayman.

I'm 6'2" and I don't find it too bad at all.

I tend to have the seat back quite upright and the seat quite far back but raised pretty high, this seems to work for me.

I've driven to France and Germany with no real issues only stopping for fuel when the car needed it not my back!

Re: Tall? How do you fit in your Cayman?

I have the sports bucket seats and have plenty of room, even with a helmet on. I'm about 6'1" myself. My torso may be shorter, but I wear a 42L suit. The sports buckets may be lower. I don't know.

I used to own an NSX and I had to drive without the seat cushion to wear a helmet. I used a carpet sample for a seat.

I'm 6'1" and was quite cramped in my Boxster. I don't think there is any more room in the Cayman, so I quess it would be the same for me. Other than the obvious, a big reason for going to the Carrera was to get the space in the cabin.

Re: Tall? How do you fit in your Cayman?

I am really not understanding the problem. Being 6'-4" with a 34" inseam, I fit with 3" OR MORE of excess headroom and 1/2" of kneeroom. Sheesh, I feel I could wear a top hat in the car. I have the seat lowered to the max and actually reclined pretty far. I could raise the seat and move the seatback more vertical if I wanted more kneeroom, but I like sitting low down in the seat and 1/2" of kneeroom is enough that I don't hit the steering controls. Of course the telescoping steering wheel is a huge help. I just have the regular seats, nothing special about them. Bear in mind it's a sports car, not a Cadillac -- of course you are going to be a little bit cramped. I think you need to spend a little more time adjusting the car.

I'm 6'0 with a 29" inseam and don't have a problem. The electric seats have a height adjustment, you might want to try them.

Re: Tall? How do you fit in your Cayman?

There are other threads on this. What I noticed from them is the variation in reported comfort; a 6-6 guy says he fits fine, and a 6-0 guy says he needs more leg room.

I'm 6-1 (34" inseam) and would also prefer a bit more leg room (head room is fine, even with a helmet and seat raised a bit). I have the sports seats, and usually drive with the seat all the way back, lowered, and with very little rake in the seat back. In my car (an '06), raising the seat bottom shortens the leg room length a bit (measured from bottom of seat back to gas pedal).

The leg length problem seems to be only with the mid-engine Porsches; the rear engine and front engine Porsches seem to provide plenty of leg room.

Yes, it is a leg-length problem. I feel like I wish I could move the seat back farther, horizontally. It feels like my leg is bent a little more than I'd like. Not intolerable, but not optimal, either. Didn't adjust the steering wheel, will have to try that. Plenty of headroom.

    Thanks all for the input.

Re: Tall? How do you fit in your Cayman?

I'm 6'2" and 1/2... at weigh 225#... 34" inseam.. I replaced the stock wheel w/ an aftermarket one from Personal (330 mm Grinta) on a Bell Works hub.

Standard wheel is 350mm (i think), so the extra 20mm diameter reduction really bought the extra leg movement room.

standard seat and telescoping wheel help a lot...

Thinking about doing something w/ the vertical piece to the left of the radio cluster etc... making that thinner or not protrude so much...

but I'm good for 5-6 hours in the car at a given time.

spoiled on long trips w/ a full-sized conversion van... now THOSE are cruisin' seats..

I'm about the same as you and have no problems, even with helmet. It's more about torso then overall height.

At 6' 2" and 220 pounds people always tell me I'm a big guy. I ain't no football player! I fit reasonably well in my Cayman as far as leg room is concerned. Would like another inch or two but who wouldn't I do wish my big *** fit a little better in the sports seats though.

    DMN:

Porsche manual seats adjust about 1" lower and 1" further back than their power seats on Caymans & Boxsters.

A lot of people forget about the tilt and telescoping steering wheel.

A trick for ingress/egress is to sit down in the seat first, then pivot to put both legs in. Getting out is just the reverse. Pivot, both legs out, then stand up. It's not quite intuitive. Seems to work for most of the spider-people I know. I learned this trick from a Ferrari salesman years ago.

I'm 5'11" with 30" inseam. Long Torso! Both standard seat & Sport Bucket offer plenty o' headroom for me.

    6' 5' and 215lbs.
No problems here. Or maybe I'm just used to it....
I do have about 2" above my head and 2" away from the dash.
Also have driven quite a few long trips of 6 hours plus and not needed a chiro afterwards!
    Ymmv though.

Interesting about the manual seats. The Cayman I liked had sport seats.

I am 6'3", 275 lbs. and I fit just fine in my BS with power seats... I do have the seat all the way back, but it works, even with a helmet.

Re: Tall? How do you fit in your Cayman?

6'1", 220, long torso, with ample natural seat cushion. I have 3" of headroom, with the manual seat all the way lowered. It's wonderful.

Pre-Cayman, I had a '98 Boxster with power seats, and had zero headroom; loved the car, but did not like that my head would strike the rollbar in a rear end collision.

To OP, P-monkey: looks like the answer for you might be manual seats. As you're in New York, you're welcome to come to Westchester and try mine for size.

I don't see where the OP has indicated what kind of seats he has but if he has the full power seats that might explain his difficulty so thanks for pointing out that difference, sixisenuff.

I was glad that my '09 Base came to me with the standard seats, as I am 6' 2" with a 32" inseam so do not have exceptionally long legs for my height. With my seats all the way down I have about 2" of headroom which is enough even with a track helmet on.
