    ipod connection and replacement stereo

Hi all, I would like to connect my ipod to my car stereo and have used a hard wire fm module thing!!! BTW, it is ****!!! Sounds awful! What a waste of £70. Anyway, I thought I may change the head unit for one that you can connect your ipod directly. I have the standard stereo in an 05 Boxter S. It does have a Bose system though so the standard sound good. My Q. is, has anyone changed their head unit and if so what works well and looks like the original. Cheers, Steve

Swapping head units on a car with Bose is tougher than you're hoping for. I wouldn't do it (besides losing the well-integrated look of the factory unit). Don't give up on your direct FM modulator just yet. Try improving the ground (earth wire). A better ground usually drastically improves the quality and reduces the noise.

Thanks for your help! I think the ground is good, but I will check and see if the sound is improved with another earth point. Once again, thanks for your help. Steve.

I've used the metra and this one:

Amazon.com: Movies 2 Go FM100A FM Modulator with IST2 Isolation Transformer (Grey): Electronics

The audiovox is quieter, and not as much noise as the metra. Works pretty well, I have it wired to the radio's power and just left it switched on. It only sounds bad on the highs of electric guitars. The metra would sound bad on high vocals

One thing to note is that this setup has a filter on the POWER wire AND the RCA inputs.

Re: ipod connection and replacement stereo

I have a Boxster "S" 2005, with the Bose CDR-24 system. The one without the GPS, only radio and CD player.

I'm looking for something wired to the stéreo (less complicated and expensive than the Dension option) to connect my IPOD or my Iphone.

Is the Parrot is wired ?
