    New bumper cap? Hood too?

Iíve got a puncture hole in my bumper and need to replace it. I need some suggestions on what and where to purchase a new bumper.
Iím thinking of going the GT3 route, I like the look of it. Looking through the internet, Iím worried about the fitment. Also, maybe a carbon fiber hood as well. The hood as a wrap on it, the underside is signed by Vic Elford so I want to keep the hood, but I think it might look neat on my garage wall.
Anyone have suggestions? I can order the part and then have my local shop put it on and paint the front end. Iíve attached a pic of what Iíve got now.
    Thanks guys!

Maybe a good time to stick in a 3rd radiator and top vent into that new bumper cover.

I purchased a GT3-style front bumper for my 987.1 from Precision Porsche Conversions. It keeps the standard 987 headlights with the GT3 bumper. You will need 997.1 turn signal/fog lamp assemblies. NR Autoicon also makes a similar front bumper. Getty makes a GT4-style bumper for the 987.

Here is the website for Precision Porsche - Porsche body kit | Carrera body kit | boxster body kit| cayman body kit |

Thanks guys! I’ve thought about putting in the third radiator.
How do you like the GT3 style bumper? I’ve emailed NRAutoicon, haven’t heard back yet.

Precision Porsche does good work. It is supposed to be installed later this month and my body guy says it is in good shape.

I ordered the NRAutoicon GT3 bumper with the 997 DRLs.
Looking forward to having this put on. Gonna have to have the whole front of the car repainted, but thatís a small price to pay for a new look car!
Iíll post pics when the job is finished.

I dunno. That puncture looked repairable to me. Maybe you just wanted to change the look?

Maybe, but the two body shops I took it to said they could repair it, but that it would look like a repair.

Thanks Croc’d! I’m getting antsy about the car now, been casting my eyes elsewhere. Scouring Bringatrailer, been looking at 930s, 964s and Alfa Romeos. Need to freshen up my Cayman to keep up the interest.

Wow, really? Doesn't sound like a very good body shop, that damage will be invisible if repaired correctly . But that is your call.

My father-in-Law said the same thing, but I have no way of knowing. I took it to a standard MAACO-type body shop, and two specialty places, all three said they could “fix” it (well the Maaco place said they didn’t want to mess with it) but that it would look like a repair, a patch if you will. Even after painting the entire front end, one guy said you’ll still be able to tell it was a repair.
I’m kind of excited about updating the front end though.

FWIW, your father-in-law is correct, a top notch body shop with a nitrogen welding system for plastics can make the repair invisible, never to be seen or noticed on the painted side of the cover, essentially as good as new.

Anyway on to the second plan, an updated front end, I have experience with that too, if you notice my avatar, a 2016 Boxster GTS never came with a GT4/Spyder bumper.

A few words of caution, depending on how you do it, the right way with all proper parts and leaving nothing out, or a short cut or adapted parts greatly affects the cost. Neither are 'inexpensive' but with all Porsche parts and leaving nothing out is very expensive. I went the second route, all Porsche OEM parts, nothing left out, all done by the book, essentially an entire front end as is from the factory, in my case into 5 figures. Here is one of the most complete threads on this modification, covers Boxsters and Caymans: https://www.planet-9.com/981-cayman-...mper-981s.html

Again, and only my opinion, knowing what I do now and even though the project turned out perfect and gets admiration every time it is out, I would leave the car alone and save the money for the next one!
