Exhaust question

Cayman

Greetings, all. I'm looking to upgrade the exhaust on my 2010 base Cayman. Priority is the double outlet exhaust tips because I like the appearance, but wouldn't mind a little more noise in the bargain. Don't really want to go to the expense of PSE, Fabspeed, Borla, etc. A 987.2 Boxster Spyder exhaust is available - does anyone know if it will bolt up to my base Cayman? Do I need anything else? Thanks for the help.

The 987.2 Spyder exhaust is a direct fit for your car. I have a base Cayman myself and upgraded with a Cayman R catback. You should notice a bit more power since the Spyder/R exhaust pipes are a bit thicker than base/S ones. You may get a little bit more sounds as well. If you want a more significant improvement in sound and power, consider replacing the headers with 200-cell catted ones. I did that and the difference is huge.

Good luck with your mods!

The standard Spyder/R exhaust does not come with any valves, only PSE exhaust (which is an upgrade) does. DIY installations without the accompanying console button and electronics do what you mentioned, ie, leave the valves open all the time.

In case anyone’s wondering, the difference between the R and S exhausts is in the headtubes. The tubing that extends forward over the axles and attaches to the header. It's 55mm in diameter vs 48mm.

With the Fabspeed tail pipe, air flow became more efficient since there is no longer a T shape at the exhaust exit. This gives a slightly better sound and likely a tiny HP gain. If you want a more significant improvement, consider upgrading your headers to something with 200-cell cats in them.
