    Buying a Macan...please help.

Well going to buy a Macan, that much is decided...like the look, and have test driven. Now here is were I need some help as I am very familiar with the Cayman 981 base vs. S and all the options, I know nothing about a Macan. Not sure I want a new one or used (preferred), what should I look for? Are there bad years? issues e.g. 981 has only two, door panel & headlight chipping. Please, any advice is greatly appreciated.

I don't own a Macan, have driven the base model as a loaner from the dealer. While the base 4 cylinder is plenty for a daily driver, the engine sounds like a Honda. I would go with the S because it's so easy to put a Cobb Tuner on it for large power gains. So far all Macan models are running low depreciation, so don't expect one to be cheap used, but you can certainly go from base to S just by buying 2 years old and 25K miles. As far as options and color, that is personal preference...but like most Porsche sold these days, if you want a nice color Macan it maybe difficult to find.

I have a 2017 Macan S. I recommend a S or GTS. Options can take a S up to GTS levels of pricing. My S is optioned up, but I don’t regret the choices.

It’s been a reliable car and we still love it. It is a good blend of luxury and attitude.

And make sure to get the Sport Chrono option.

I have one of the very early ones. Delivered in December 2014. At that time only S and Turbo were available, mine is an S now with 35K miles. Only issue was a hatch window that leaked after a year and was replaced otherwise no issues at all. Very flexible cargo wise, obviously smaller than the Cherokee but way more fun to drive. I agree that the S or now GTS is the sweet spot. It’s quick enough for its size that I’m not too disappointed when the 911 has to stay in the garage and I need the Macan.

I've had numerous Macan loaners. Avoid the base seats is a recomendation I've read. The 4 cylinder engine is fine IMHO. Get a warranty, my friend's S needed a transfer case replaced.

Porsche makes a poor transfer case, affects the Cayenne too. Our Cayenne Turbo needed a new transfer case at 50K, the warranty had already run out but Porsche coveted half of the $4300 cost.

    Re: Buying a Macan...please help.

I had a Macan GTS that was pretty highly optioned including Sport Chrono. I loved it. It sounded great, handled great and was pretty darn quick. I see you are in FL. My sales guy in Atlanta was giving a pretty high discount to my referrals and he actually sold cars in Seattle, San Francisco, TX, OH and up and down the east coast to those referrals. If you are interested, let me know and I'll send you a PM or email with his contact info. If you order a new one, you could do PEC delivery in Atlanta and drive one of their Macans on the track. Also, there is a specific Macan forum and that is where I started the referral thread.

WOW...you folks are great! thx for all the advice. Never heard of transfer case issues, but owning a 981 only two know issues (door panel + some headlight lamination)...which a transfer case sounds scary.
I did note that some base models also have turbos...wondering the difference between base + turbo and a S? So many frickin models now, hopefully P is not going the BMW route...
Ok a real stupid question if I buy used, but not CPO, how long are the warranties good for 5 yrs and 50K?
    thanks!

Go to the porsche website and read the specs. All gas Macans are turbos. Base cars are 4 cyl. S and GTS use the same V6 engine. Turbo model uses a different engine. Porsche warranty is the same for all Porsches in US, 4 years.
