    PASM for the Macan?

I have a question, I drive a BGTS and the wife is getting a Macan...

I am wondering if I should be adding PASM to the Macan configuration, I know that she might not need it but I think that I would likely select Sport and Sport+ when I get behind the wheel!

    What do you guys think?

I would. I always used the sport setting in my Cayenne GTS. ONLY on very rough streets did I use the comfort setting.

That's how it works on our Macan, a great SUV by the way. My wife is usually in 'Comfort', and I'm alsways in 'Sport'.

    Re: PASM for the Macan?

Definitely get PASM. Recently went to UK PEC and all driving consultants I spoke to recommended steel suspension and PASM with all wheels up to 19inch. Over 19inch it was felt that air suspension was the better option to achieve the best ride/handling compromise. I have decided to go with 19inch alloys with steel suspension and PASM.

Good to get this feedback, thanks guys! I think I could sell her on PASM if it comes out of my pocket!

About air suspension, here in Canada that would double the price to over $3k... We are getting 20" wheels though...

In know I am a minority, but I didn't like PASM, comfort way too soft and sport too harsh, standard suspension is exactly in the middle of these settings. Works for me (and my wife).

This is what the dealer just described to me, I need to re-visit it with my wife so she can make up her mind. She like a real smooth ride when not speeding about, and a stiffer ride on the smooth roads or when having a bit of fun.

I asked a question of the Porsche Technical Department on this very issue. I wanted a comfort setting for more relaxed long motorway journeys without paying the extra for air suspension. They replied that the 'comfort' setting with PASM was no softer than the standard steel suspension and would not feel any softer or more comfortable in PASM 'comfort'? Decided to go with PASM though to tighten it up for the twisty bits!

Although I think that I would choose this route...

I talked to my wife about this last night and she rolled her eyes and just said: " Why?, it will be just fine for me without PASM the way I will use it..." so I may just have been vetoed!

I hear ya, I hear ya... but I am already on the hook for the Premium package and the Bose Sound system and this is cutting into my budget for extras on the BGTS!

Comfort setting is definitely softer in the car we test-drove. Strongly recommend to try them back-to-back and make your own decision based on what you experience, not web. For me, it was not worth spending the money. Macan is sporty enough, you can drive it quite spirited even with standard suspension and 18 inch rims. For truly spirited drives, I just take the 987CR.

    Re: PASM for the Macan?

OK, so let me throw in the other side of the fence here... Not actually greener, but ier

I now have 8000 miles on my '15 Macan S (with PASM - no air).
I have driven every conceivable type of road by now, from an 8 lane highway in NJ... all the way to gravel twisties in Vermont, and the mini-"Tail of the Dragon" in upstate NY.
(BTW if you want the feeling of being a world class rally driver in relative safety... Try the Macan on a dirt road in "off-road" mode, full PASM. Kick *** drifting!

Any way, after my previous experiences with 3 different Boxsters (all with PASM), the settings on the Macan left me wanting something even a little tighter for "weekend excursions"

So, later this month, its off to Fabspeedicon to get a set of H&R springs installed, lower the Macan a bit, and increase the rigidity of the already pretty stiff sport plus setting. Plus, what's not to like about an SUV on Steroids ?

    Love it !!!

That is interesting, so I take it you are happy you got PASM? And now you want to stiffen things up a bit more with H&R springs? What do you think that your experience would have been over the last 8000 miles without PASM, did you use the Sport and Sport+ modes as much or more than Normal?

    Thanks!

    Re: PASM for the Macan?

I have to say that there have been VERY few instances where my Macan has been in the "normal" setting. I found that sport was all the comfort I needed on the road this spring and summer. I did set it to comfort during the early spring when the potholes were everywhere. Still felt firmer than my wife's Mini Clubman.
Sport Plus has for the most part been reserved for some hairy 2 lane twistes. One thing I can't figure out is why when you push the off-road button the PASM defaults to - sport plus???
But, all that said, I had the chrono package on my boxsters, so my butt is very familiar with stiff suspension settings.
It's worth it. Especially if you are ever going to drive it.

That is what I suspected, she may leave it in Normal but I would likely prefer Sport or Sport+... hmmm, another box to check!
