Just won on BAT, need help on shipping advice

Just won this two days ago and need to know any shipping companies you have used and or trust:

    https://bringatrailer.com/listing/19...1-speedster-9/

Car will be ending up in Omaha so it's a long ways to drive. But if I can't get a good feeling on a transporter I may do it.

The one that BAT recommends will not bring it to Omaha.

    Thanks in advance.

Now that spring has sprung, and from someone who loves a good road trip, I'd go and get it myself. You can rent a nice car trailer for a reasonable amount and bring it home yourself. That's what I'd do and have fun doing it.

If you rent a trailer make sure the car can get on it, had a friend with a
Boxster that could not get on the U-Haul rig.

Congrats on the car - hope it’s all you wish for.

I use Horseless Carraige - they’ve never done me wrong.

Enclosed Auto Transport, Enclosed Auto Shipping, Classic Car Storage - Horseless Carriage Carriers

It’s best to book directly with one of the bigger outfits like Horseless Carraige, InterCity Lines, Reliable Carriers etc.

Reliable Carriers | Vehicle Transport Services

    http://www.intercitylines.com/

Stay away from brokers as they have little or no knowledge of where your car is once it’s enroute - they’re basically a middleman.

Re: Just won on BAT, need help on shipping advice

When I won my flood Boxster it took $1k to go from Miami to SW Ohio. I used UShip and the vendor I chose was a broker who was masquerading as a shipper and had difficulty scheduling picking up within Copart's 'no storage fee' window and they brokered it out to a company that wanted an additional $100 over the UShip quote. I got it in good shape, but wouldn't use them again.

Re: Just won on BAT, need help on shipping advice

The two I've used are Reliable and Plycon - the two 'brands' that most everyone already knows. Both are excellent in every respect. A pleasure to work with. No hassles. No jenky drivers. Detailed attention to loading and securing the car. I used 'covered' (inside the truck) cartage. Not sure if Reliable and/or Plycon also offer an 'open' option.

Very comforting operations. No worries at all.

    You pay accordingly.

All that said, I'd likely drive.

Re: Just won on BAT, need help on shipping advice

Thanks all for the help. I did get a quote from all the shipper mentioned, unfortunately Omaha is not on their list of places most likely to deliver to anytime soon. But it turned out the seller was only a few miles from a friends in Atlanta, so the car now sits in his garage. Will be going down to drive it back up myself with a friend.

I haven't driven a manual car since the first days I started driving, and that was only like twice. It will be a fun trip back.

    Thanks all again.

Good luck and have fun. Better learn to feather the clutch and not overly rely on slippage. Otherwise you'll be replacing the clutch soon. Don't give it lots of throttle until the pedal is completely out. With practice, you can get it completely engaged at around 1000-1200 RPM with minimum slippage. Work on finesse and avoid the temptation for jack-rabbit launches. Learn to get your thrills on the curves and downshifting into corners and accelerating out of them..

Ahh yes - Omaha. Brings back fond memories from my younger days with my 1st Porsche over 30 yrs ago. I used to love the back country roads among the corn fields and especially the hilly/twisties along the Missouri River valley.

OMG, now I want in! Atlanta to Omaha is a perfect road trip distance. Spring now - even in Omaha - great timing.

Fear not your long absence from clutching. You'll pick it back up chop chop. Hopefully your travel-pal does have both current skills and some kindly patience.

Take your time. Drive about 7-8 hours - then get a room at some $59 flea-bag 'motor-lodge'. Eat/drink to minor excess in whatever town you happen to find yourself in. Engage with locals.

    Lather, rinse, repeat.

A few tools, fully charged cell phones and a valid credit card will handle any nuisance - though in extreme circumstances cash-is-king. I prefer beef jerky and Mountain Dew as car vittles. Satellite radio rocks. I bought myself an el-cheapo portable XM unit more than ten years ago. I know I'm a dinosaur but it's still goin' strong.

    'Nuf. Have fun. I'm jealous.

Unfortunately, the Missouri is flooded right now and lot of those twists are no more, I hope when the waters recede that some are left intact. Everyone along the Missouri between Nebraska/Iowa and down to Kansas is in very bad shape.

But yes, those are some of the best roads around here.

Re: Just won on BAT, need help on shipping advice

Well a friend and I made the trip from Atlanta to Omaha in the last few days. I didn't drive, friend did. Getting the clutch right is going to take some practice, so that's what I'll do now that I'm home.

Had hennessy porche do an oil change and look over before we left from Atlanta. Blake - one of the mechanics at Hennessy even took the time to show us the jack/tools and jacking points. They did a inspection and found that the tires and wipers were the only things needing attention soon.

The car itself runs great, almost 1100 miles, no issues, could got 70-80 steady for hours with no heating or oil issues. And now I've got a list of little projects do to as well (new radio, wipers need adjusting, new dash lights...)

Fortunately we didn't run into any rain at all in the trip. Didn't get to really take our time as we had work to get back to, but did get a few pics, will post a few more later.

Hennessey also had a 3 GT2 RS in stock - we don't get those much in Omaha.

Also wanted to give a special thanks to Husker Boxster for advice on driving and prep for the trip. He even offered to give some driving lessons - much appreciated.
