Off to Germany & The Nürburgring

In the fall of 2015, October to be precise, we are off to Europe, planning to take in both the Porsche factory and museum tours. The Nürburgring is not so far from Stuttgart and well, we were thinking of doing a lap or two around the Nordschleife while we are in the neighborhood. Unfortunately, my '14 Cayman S will remain at home.

Has anyone driven the Nordschleife and rented from one of the local ring tour companies and can recommend one? Thanks or should I say Danke!

I'm going to have to start practicing my German.

There are several companies equally respected that rent vehicles. Or you can be a passenger in a Ring Taxi. Regardless it will cost you 100s of Euros. They do offer tourist days that will let you drive what you brung ;), just don't expect the world. Its long and lots of curves. Its a bucket list item if you are realistic. Way too much to take in in just 1 or 2 laps. Plus at that time of the year, being in a more northern location, you can't be guaranteed of any favorable weather.

go for it - there are some rules about using the ring rental cars on the road though so read the fine print.
I remember there were a couple of guys who took their cars on the roads near the track, put it on youtube and got themselves into trouble.

If Sabine is there (guest on Top Gear UK) try to get her to be your ring taxi driver!

I did 4 laps last August in my car and it was awesome. Google RSR Nurburg and you will find a lot of info on their cars rental and Nordschleife in general. I stayed at Sabine's Longhorn boutique hotel for a couple nights and had a chance to meet her in person.

Many things to do in Germany, but Nürburgring Nordschleife in autumn is not high on my list. Weather likely to be bad, and you better take the 'ring like a B road you've never been on before. And it's probably 3-4 hours away.

From Stuttgart, rent a proper car, go Schwarzwald (Black Forrest) and visit some decent restaurants (1-3 Michelin star) in the area. Or if you have some days left, go to Dresden (quite a hike, better take a plane) which is really the most beautiful city in the country. Munich also not too far away.

Drop me an email / PM if you want some hints what to do, just let me know what your interests are and ideas around budget.
