    Interior Touch Up Paint

Last December I purchased a 2008 Cayman S with Sand Beige interior. Since that time I have been looking for touch up paint in the Sand Beige color. As most of you know, Porsche does not make an interior touch up paint so I contacted my body shop to find out they only have exterior paint. I recently replaced a piece of interior trim and kept the old one in my garage. Today I had to go to Home Depot to purchase paint for my home office and I decided to take the old piece of trim with me to see if Home Depot could match it. To my amazement, they were able to match the paint color perfectly. I purchased a small amount and tried it. As the Brits would say it was "spot-on". Just thought I would pass this along to my fellow Porsche owners.

Did you get eggshell or semi-gloss?

Seriously, though, how does the texture match? Can you pick out the touched-up spots even though the color matches? Also, did you get oil-based or latex? I'm not sure which would stick better to plastic.

    Excellent tip.

The texture matches very well, its latex paint and very difficult to tell where I touched it up. Did the touch up today. Will let you know how well it holds up. No reason to believe it won't. I am very happy with the results and I am considered by most people I know to be anal. More to come.

I used a very small pointed brush and just dabbed the paint into the chips. Same way you would do paint chips on the exterior paint. Worked very well.

A few months back, I did the same as OP. I took my ash-tray to Home Depot and got the color matched. The clerk was very helpful and suggested using a small paint sprayer kit (powered by a little can of compressed air that was included). It was like a small air-brush. I think it was $5-6. I don't remember the brand name - can check if someone is interested - or ask at HD.

I had to thin the latex enamel, but once I got the proper thinness it worked wonderfully.
I tested it buy re-spraying my ash-tray. Once I was confident, I took on some serious scratched in the trim in the rear comparment. I used the spray to blend the paint. It looks great and leaves no brush marks. Once dried, you couldn't tell it was touched-up.

Mine were not scratches but small chips so I used a small brush and dabbed the paint into the chip until it was filled. This evening I asked my wife to find the chip on the side of her seat and she was unable to tell where it was. All in all, I am very pleased with the results.

By the formula used, I assume you mean how the paint was mixed. That was easy, I simply took a sample of the color to Home Depot and they scanned it and were able to make an exact match. I could take pictures of were I touched up the interior but you would not be able to see where I did it. The color match was that good. Keep in mind my repairs were to chips and not scratches. You might want to use a spray kit to do yours as one of our other members did as posted above. He seems to be quite happy with the results. Good luck.

There is a number on the top of the Home Depot sticker which may be the color code. It's 697912143052. I looked at other cans of paint that I purchased from Home Depot and that all have different numbers on the stickers so I assume the number above is the correct color code. Hope that gives you what you need.

Don't know why I didn't think of this sooner. I had been trying to get touch up paint for the last six months. When I went to get in the car the other day, I saw the interior part I had replaced and something told me to take it to Home Depot to see if the could match the color. Good thing I decided to paint my home office or I mighty still be looking for interior touch up paint.

    Re: Interior Touch Up Paint

Following cremaley's lead, I too went to HomeDespot for touch-up paint for my '06 CS's Stone Grey interior. Using the car's ashtray for a match, they mixed a 7.25 oz "sample" that matches perfectly. The paint code is "6212179729" and the cost was $2.95 plus Gov. Rainbow's cut.

Glad you were able to get a perfect match for your Stone Grey interior and thanks for sharing the paint code.

    Re: Interior Touch Up Paint

Great info - Thanks! I have been dealing with the same issue on my sand beige interior, I think I will look into this. Th scratches on the pillars along with my sagging headliner have been driving me crazy.
I ordered a couple of samples of Alcantara yesterday from a dealer in Florida to see if I can remedy the headliner - maybe I can get both of these corrected at the same time

Sigh. It's a little disconcerting that people are having to do "restorations" on 5 yr old cars. This sounds like the 944 episode of "Wheeler Dealers".

According to my body shop, the paint on the plastic in the interior is very soft and can easily be damaged. My chips were very small but I wanted the interior perfect since I enter my car in the Porsche Club of America local Concours d'Elegance and the judges deduct for every defect. I am in the process of preparing for another Concours and my interior is now defect free.

    Re: Interior Touch Up Paint

Looks like the last post is quite aged. Wonder if the OP or others have feedback on the long term performance of the Home Depot paint fix?

When I bought my CS CPO last year, the interior had been retouched by the dealer - so there is some paint solution the dealerships are using.

    Re: Interior Touch Up Paint

I'm very interested in this as well. My ashtray (stone grey) has chips and scratches in it so I'd like to refinish it (a replacement is $150+!). Getting the correct paint is one thing, but how should it be prepped before painting? Has anyone sanded the whole thing? Chips can be filled I supposed with mixed results but long scratches generally cannot (I think the previous owner had a small dog - there are little scratches all over the place). I'd like to just sand and paint the whole thing but I'm just not quite sure the best way to do it (it's different than sanding metal, wood, etc. I imagine).

My door insert (where the handle is) is all scratched up as well and while that piece is only $50-75 to replace, if I can repaint it for <$10 then that would be ideal.

    Re: Interior Touch Up Paint

I just bought a 2010 Boxster Base with Sand Beige interior. I extracted the ash tray and took it to Home Depot just like the original post explained. The "expert" was torn between the Satin and the Eggshell finish. He originally chose the Satin but changed his mind at the last second to the Eggshell. The plastic parts are almost undetectable (LOVE IT). The leather parts (steering wheel) are only 1% off the right color. I should note that I'm a graphic designer and see probably 80% more than than the typical person because I'm used to looking for the 1% that is not perfect. So, I can definitievely say that this is the best and most trusted option I've seen or used. The Arctic and Titanium silver trim pieces are bit more delicate. I haven't been able to repeat the same results as I I did with Home Depot and the Latex scan color of the ash tray,
