  1. Blown Engine - which route to go next?

    987 Cayman and Boxster Chat
The last sentence is pretty discouraging. You are also the second person who has built one to say that. Can you elaborate? What would you do with a cayman with a blown engine?
  2. Data Thread: Mileage vs. Reliability of member cars.

    987 Cayman and Boxster Chat
I thought we could all benefit from aggregating some data on the cars here and how they've held up over time. This is inspired by my thread about what engine to swap into my Cayman now that I have a spun rod bearing (...

My last comment is on a rebuild, I looked at sourcing a stock crank for the M97 and you can only get them directly from Porsche for $5k. I am not sure how this engine could be rebuilt properly for 8k like someone had mentioned.

Hi Josh, I've followed your build thread/blog/youtube channel of the build, very impressive. I haven't been able to get clarity on your front seat situation with the LS and how your axles are holding up? Would love some feedback on that and how you solved for these two items. Renegade seems...

The feedback so far is almost overwhelming, I think one thing is for certain: there is no "right" way to move forward based on the polarized opinions here so far. I do appreciate all the opinions though, some options brought forward are ones I didn't consider and this is why I came here. I am...

Option 7 enters: Local guy has front end collision Boxster S, has been sitting in his garage for 6-7 years wants to sell the whole car. 27k miles I would have to buy the whole car and part out whatever is salvageable and keep the motor.

Great feedback, thank you all for posting. I’ve gone over hundreds of pages of threads on various boards and will put up my thoughts as they are to summarize where I stand. Make the assumption I am getting this car for free on the condition I can make it into a viable fun car and it stays in...
  8. Blown Engine - which route to go next?

That definitely took the wind out of my sails. Is it really that bad, I mean from what I am reading it seems most cars prone to this are from colder climates. Assuming the car isn't driven in the winter and is rebuilt properly it should last no?

Reviving this from the dead, OP, have you had any luck with the car?

Option 5: Rebuild it yourself like this guy did who posted the entire footage on youtube, wow https://www.planet-9.com/threads/engine-removal-question.86847/

Thanks for the response, that is great feedback. Based on some additional research looks like there is an additional option 4. Send the engine to be rebuilt by Flat6Innovations type of shop for ~$8k which should net a reliable engine and probably one of the most straight forward solutions...
  12. Blown Engine - which route to go next?

    987 Cayman and Boxster Chat
I joined the forum to get some feedback on a project I am considering, this seems like the right place to ask. I have the opportunity (or nightmare) of bringing back to life a 2006 Cayman S. The car has a spun rod bearing, I plan to bring it back to life as a street car with 4-6 track days and...
