Grocery-getter? Not if you take off the mini-van tires and give it a bit of a lift. The ML is an incredible truck for off-roading. It has two weaknesses: Lack of wheel articulation means it can rock-crawl over giant obstacles one wheel at a time. But the lack of a center diff gives it great ground clearance and you can hit stuff two wheels at a time. No locking differential means that the traction control system can kill your forward momentum when all four wheels are slipping at the same time. It's AWD system is amazing, however. I can go through snow that leaves jeeps way behind and 4x4 trucks stuck. Mods are expesive (sound familiar?) and it is often underestimated (sound familiar?)
