Owner of 05 Boxster and 09 Cayenne, Cayenne has been down since Christmas. Insert key, turn and only get the Porsche logo, it is not turning over or communicating with the rest of the car. After having my two area car specialist look over the problem they cannot figure out the issue. Now at Porsche dealer since Jan.17th, Service say they have never seen anything like this..I suspected the Kessey unit from the beginning. Dealer this week replaced that unit and still not fully communicating. This car only has 48,000 miles and fully maintained like new. Recently had a conversation with the service manager and get he would like no better to have this out of his shop and back to his customer..and still have no idea what is the cause of the problem. I have never experienced a situation like this..if Porsche can't fix it than what? I'm sharing this post for any insight of what happens when the dealers are stuck and what does Porsche do next and maybe this can make a difference in the future.

Is the starter motor any good? (field test by applying power to it)
Is the ignition switch any good?
What's in between the two?

Really they need to learn to diagnose the problem, not just "guess" because they don't have a fault code they can understand. Sadly most service people are code reading monkeys these days...

Thanks K-Man S, I needed to have that very conversation with the Service manager, as the young person I was checking in with just could not give me enough info on where the tech was with the car, and if they cannot diagnose from the lap top they are stuck thinking outside the box..like starter, switch, etc.. They have both keys to check immobilizer..Manager says they have had the field tech as well as their gold tech on this car and may prioritize this so that Porsche authorizes them to start "throwing parts " at it. I still cannot answer your simple but so basic questions.. IMG_0744.jpg IMG_0748.jpg

Today I heard back from Porsche of the Main Line about my Cayenne, seems it was a Kessey unit, but Porsche software was the problem and needed to be updated so everything could be reprogramed, and they now identify the cause is a faulty module in the steering column, however that means the entire column must be replaced to rectify the problem. I gave the ok to order the column and total estimate so far for Kessey unit and steering column is $4,000. I made a request to service for Porsche to help with this cost..my car has been with them since Jan.9..due to the low mileage, great condition and owner of another Porsche Boxster. We all expect more satisfaction and reliability, but the unit was not ordered till very late while the dealer was waiting for a 09 trade in to swap out the part to test, And Porsche's knowledge of their software issue that had to be discovered by the dealer than sent codes to fix their problem. I expect more in their "Customer Commitment" and the down time of my vehicle is unacceptable. I am open to other avenue if anyone has been down this road..thank you.

I have the same car, 2009 Cayenne, and the same problem, "Insert key, turn and only get the Porsche logo, it is not turning over or communicating with the rest of the car". This is the first times I can't start the car, I have read a lot from the touareg forum, because cayenne has the same platform with Touareg, they have a lot of same problems and can't start, most of these cars are replaced the steering module column to get the problem settled, I am thinking about it if I tow the car to the dealer, they will do a lot of useless diagnosis on my car, and the cost will be on my bill, so what can I do? can anyone give me some suggestion?
