So I'm a sucker for trying to get a model car "as close to" my real car as possible.

Usually there is lots of compromise.

This is my closest yet.

I hit up Bongo's Basement in Australia, and soon had myself:
Maisto 1:18 Silver 987 Cayman S

And

Maisto 1:18 Red 911 (997) Carrera S (with Lobster claws) ;) ;)

Now....big thanks to Bongo. Once he understood what I was trying to do, he sent me the 911 FOR FREE as he has one that was slightly damaged. And I mean.....hardly noticeable.

I'd looked up online how to swap the wheels on Maisto models, but with the Porsches it wasn't as simple as any video which all showed "popping the wheels off" from the axles.

This wasn't possible due to the wheel design so......

For the rears, I had to remove 2 screws, remove the plate, and the pull out the entire axle and wheels together.
Fortunately the design including suspension mounting holes was the same for both cars, so this was a direct swap.

For the fronts, the "rack" was not the same design, so I had to very carefully pull apart the suspension and steering racks on both cars, and then very very gently "pop" the hub and wheel from the ends of the racks, and swap over. Then re-assemble.

The result......

There is a Kinsmart 1/34 scale model that I just happened to see at the drug store. I also ordered a blue one to match my car. I looks good for less than $10.

Aww the little models look so cool too :)

I may have to get some smaller models. The ONLY size i can find a model Alfa Romeo GTV 916 (one of my other cars) is made by mini champs and is 1:43 scale :/ And they're rare as hens teeth.

I have a 1:18 Cayman S (987.2) in black my wife found for me.....sadly my search for a tiny black/silver contract Cayman R continues. It's frustrating because, when I lived in Europe, I signed a contract with Air Berlin to have on of their Airbus A320's liveried in the colours of a hotel brand I ran as COO (I remember it cost $100,000 EUR) - this one off aircraft was reproduced by a German toy company and sold as a limited edition....yet, no Cayman R.

Yeah it's odd the things you can't find. Sadly sometimes it comes down to licencing rights. Unless Porsche allow a model company to use the IP, then they cant make a model.

The same is true even for virtual entities, which is why so few driving games feature Porsche cars, as they dont have the licence to do so.

Great story about the airbus :)
