Hi All, I'm getting my 981 next week (currently have a 987).
And I will definitely upgrade the rims to Carrera S or Carrera Sport style (comes w/ 18").

Can you please show your pictures and experience please - although it's clear 20" will look better I prefer 19" for a smother ride, I hope to see how the 19" fill the wells vs. the 20".

Thanks in advance!

Mine came with 19” and I up’d to 20”. No perceptible change in ride.

19”

20”

Thanks so much, this is exactly what I was looking forward to seeing.

By any chance you remember the 19" tires measurements? Specially the height.

I'm looking for that look.

??? All of the available tires are the same diameter and therefore height; they have to be or the speedometer and the stability systems won’t work properly. The difference is the tire sidewall height and the wheel diameter. The bigger the wheels the shorter the tire sidewall.

The tire/wheel combos will all fill the wheel well the same. If you want less gap above the tire, you need to do it with suspension.
That's exactly what I meant, I'm looking to get the appropriate side wall height for 19" (car will come with 18") I guess it'll be 40, just want to make sure.

Thanks

Thanks so much, that's the chart I was looking for. I recall seeing it before but only took a screenshot for 987.

Appreciate the support.

I have 20" OEM wheels but upped the tire size in rear from 265/35/20 to 275/35/20 and in front from 235/35/20 to 245/35/20 and ride is fine and no issues. The only reason I had to go up in size a tad was because I could not find all season tires in the OEM size.

Absolutely love that look. I personally prefer that extra rubber on the sides than the flat look.

My 987 comes with Michelin that give that wide footprint look.

I also went from a 987S to a 981S and my 981 with 20" wheels are less harsh than my 987 with 19" wheels. I have the Carrera S wheels in platinum satin which look great with the Dark Blue Metallic. Any of the 20" factory wheel choices I think have a better looking design than the 19's.

My 981S started on 20's. I wanted to change to 19's, but the tires I wanted only came in 20 for the width & profile I needed. The rule I have used is not to change the old to new circumference (speedo error) by more than 3% front to back. Meaning the front and back could both go up by 4% and your PSM should not recognize it, although your speedometer would be off by 4%. But if the front went down by 2% and the rear went up by 2%, then your PSM may start reacting to a perceived problem. check www.willtheyfit.com.
I ended up with HRE R101LW that were a bit wider than stock, to accommodate a wider tire.

2013 Boxster S. Original owner mounted 19 inch HRE wheels to replace the original 19 inch Boxster S factory wheels. I love how the black wheels work with the Mexico Blue. But, if I'm honest, I feel like there is a strange dynamic in slow tight turns. The feedback through the steering wheel feels like the wheels are too big almost like the wheels are pushing back against my hands. Maybe the offset is slightly different from OEM.

I just mounted 18 inch lobster forks from a 987.2 for my winter setup and I actually like how the steering feels now compared to the 19s. They don't look quite as good but they feel better. It's a tough emotional perspective.
It's it a wrap or you painted it? Look great

Decided to stay with 19's for ride quality and IMO, they look fine. I prefer the fatter tire sidewall over the 1" bigger rim wheel look.

I also went up one size in tires front and rear and the spec was perfect...while filling in the wheel gap a tad...and feels a bit more sure footed on the road. View attachment 271773
