I bought the softronic software but have not uploaded it yet. Looking to get a set of 19's as the car looks a little better. I hear the ride gets a little rougher though.
I have the original 17's that came with the 'base model".... I wanted the car to look retro (50's 60's). Might have to go up-size one-day if I ever want to add a LSD as I believe it requires 18 inch or lager?
I'd be interested in learning why LSD would require larger wheels.
That said, my 2.9 Cayman came with the 18" Cayman S II wheels, listed on the window sticker. They are wider than the 17" standard wheels, I believe, at 8" front and 9" rear.
I have a 2009. It has about 16.5k miles and I have the following mods. This is my weekend/good weather car. I have a daily driver when the weather gets cold. I've used the car at auto crosses and on the track. I'm very happy with it!
FVD Tune
FVD "Sound" Exhaust
Numeric Racing shifter cables
Clear side markers (is this even a mod?)
19 " Cayman R wheels
So I'm guessing the 2.9 is capable of snapping shifter cables just like other models? Any downside to the Numeric racing shifter cables, or is this something everyone should have in inventory as a back-up part for when the OEM cable lets go?
None so far; plan to change the 19" wheels for 18". I looked at 17's but there aren't enough tire selections. Sigh. I'll be putting all-seasons on as well; roads I drive on are poor enough to justify the small decrease in performance for the increase in ride comfort / greater tire life.
What aftermarket parts or mods would you like to see available for the 2.9?
These are already available: limited-slip diff, clear engine covers, guard mesh for the front grille openings. The Best aftermarket 'part' for me would be a good shop manual; I don't know of one, to my knowledge Porsche hasn't released one so the various aftermarket publishers can't write one up. Sighhhh.
How do you use your car? What do you think about its capabilities?
It's my daily driver, and it's great! Goes to & from work, stores, etc with ease, goes to Palomar Mtn and other such Really Fun Roads with gusto! I did the Porsche Driver Ed days here in San Diego last fall, and it was a blast! The car's terrific on an autocross course (better than its driver, he's got some work to do!)

I was just up at Palomar this past weekend. It was great except for the damned crotch rockets that would not get out of my way! Have you checked out any of the roads east of the 15 and just south of the 76? There is some incredibly serpentine asphalt back there!
I have a 2009 6spd with zero frills and almost 40K on the clock. I have owned it since december. It is a weekend car that ends up getting driven all the time for some reason.
No mods on the car as of yet. I will probably do Bilstein PSS10's once I figure out what I am going to do to correct the roll center and bump steer. I am thinking since no one has addressed this I will probably end up having something fabricated. If I end up keeping the car for any period of time an LSD is in its future. I also want to do something about the seats (I have the 4 way adjustable seats) as they are not the most comfortable thrones. I am torn between buying some second hand 18 way seats or having the stockers re-built. At some point the glass will get tinted as well.
This will be my first "toy" car that I am not going to touch in terms of power enhancements. The smiles/$ just is not there IMHO. Coming from turbocharged platforms where $5k nets you a 30-50% increase in power to the NA Cayman where you get 5% for that money it just does not add up for me. Add to that the fact that the car connects corners so well with the power it has, I feel no need to draw any more out of it. I have been thinking about picking up a Cayenne Turbo S for my DD and straight line thrills. Time will tell if something else does not distract me first.
This weekend I am tackling oil change, spark plugs and air filter.
Red Belts, Ultimats, Titanium/Red/Black Hood Crest, Black Cayman Emblem, BMC Filter, De-Snorked, Borla Exhaust, Softronic DME Flash, BBS SR 18", Michelin PSS
Will do Cayman R suspension at some point.
How do you use your car? What do you think about its capabilities?
Weekend / track day car. I think the 2.9 is perfect for this chassis. I can use all of the available power without getting too crazy on public roads. No IMS drama either

What do you think of the Borla? Does it drone under normal/sane driving? How would you characterize it's aggressiveness? I like it at full scream, but want to keep my car DD friendly.
I was at a car show this weekend in St Pete... met a guy with a 2.9 Cayman who offered me his HR lowering springs (drops the car about 1.3 inches) for a great price $$$. I always thought it would be cool to lose the 2 inch gap between the top of the tire and the bottom of the fender but I do like my cars ability to clear road debris in the real world. Anyone lower there car? I have the original 17 inch wheels that come with the base car (love the way it rides). Anyone interested in a set of springs with 3,000 non-track miles on them if I turn down the deal. (Owner is going for a full race suspension, he tends to modify and change his car often).
Wow! 10 to 1 on the poll for six-speeds over PDK.... might be the last time in any of our lifetimes we see such a dominate number for the manual transmission. Where are all the PDK guys?
987.2 2.9 PDK here. Only had the car 4 weeks. Previously owner 06 Cayman S and before that a 996 C2 3.6 The 987 2.9 is much more fun to drive than the Cayman. Not a fan of convertibles but wanted the PDK box. Real all-rounder. It's my daily driver. Managed 42 mpg on a recent 500 mile business motorway trip and yet on kick down makes a great noise and has plenty of torque for what I need. Very impressed so far.
Since we have a few 2.9 owners gathered together, I've got a question.... Every month I'm getting magazines (Excellence and Panorama) profiling different 500hp Cayman S project cars with 911 engine swaps.
Now I've never been a big HP guy... and I enjoy my 2.9 because I can push it to 10/10th without being a pro driver. But my intellectual curiosity gets the best of me, is it even possible to put a bigger 911 engine in the 2.9 Cayman as its the only new car without DFI technology (and the ECU and electronics to handle a DFI engine). Will I ever open my Excellence magazine and see a track monster built from a 2.9 owner who blew his engine and decided to do something crazy with a high HP project car? Or is the 2.9 not cut-out for the newer better 911 engines because of the DFI issue? (Ironically, I was reading about a turbo 2.9 and the guys at TPC said its much easier to modify because the non-DFI head is much simpler to work with)
For now, my current mods are 9500ix passport radar detector, the Waze social network (police locator), and I'm thinking about adding a laser jammer.... as my bone stock 2.9 is already too fast for our local speed limits.
2009 2.9 six-speed checking in. Picked her up with 15,000 miles in November. Was CPO @ $43k, dropped the CPO and got it for $34k.
Has just over 20,000 miles right now. Options are minimal; heated seats, Cayman S II 18" wheels & Bose. Just did the service myself; oil, filter, air filter, cabin filter and magnetic drain plug. Found out that there is no manual service reset, bummer. Haven't done much else... disconnected the joining exhaust pipe but I want to get a Borla system.
I knew I forgot something. In Sept I noticed the pads looks fairly depleted @48K mi. I probably had a few thousand left on them before the wear sensor would have alerted. I ordered a set of EBC Brakes Redstuff Ceramic Low Dust Brake Pads (DP32029C front) (DP31920C rear). IIRC they were about 1/2 the cost of OEM. I did this along with a complete brake/clutch flush.
I don't notice a difference in stopping power - but I don't track the car and the OEM already had plenty of power for street use. I did notice lots less brake dust - however I still see some - which seems to dust right off the wheels.
Only issue was a slight squeal for the 1st 200 miles. Seemed to go away perminently after a pressure wash.
Got my 2011White PDK with 19k miles in Dec, 2 year full factor warranty on it. Bought it sight unseen in LA and had it shipped to my door in Cave Creek AZ-scary stuff. I was initially looking for a 911, but couldn't find anything I liked, then drove a Cayman-almost by mistake and I was hooked.
Paid $39+ & $200 for transport. It was perfect inside and out. Lots of goodies dealer had not mentioned in the AD. Xenon headlights, HomeLink, leather 14 way, memory, heated seats, 18" rims, proper paddle shifters, Blue tooth etc. Got 24k on it now, its a DD, we go everywhere together. Only done one mod, put plastic gutter guard in the front intakes to protect the radiators behind.
Having fun with the local Porsche Club, lots of events, going to my first AutoX next week.
Amazing fun little car with some serious speed, my first Porsche and can see it being my last.
Mine's a 2011 6MT daily driver with 33K miles. Replaced shifter cable at 32K miles with OEM. Ditto clutch switch at ~24K miles. 18" wheels, HR springs, 7/15 mm F/B spaces, Cantrell GT exhaust, fabspeed black chrome tips, OEM SSK, GT2 shift knob, alum foot pedals, sports design steering wheel, 2DIN Kenwood w/ (rear camera, XM, Pendora, iPhone connectivity).
Researched TPC stage1 turbo seriously, but this is crazy because the car is already TOO FAST for street driving, no tickets yet though - knock on wood - not that I condone speeding on hwys! That's it for mods so far. LOVE this car, and not trading in for a 981 Cayman nor 911! All great cars BTW.
I have a 6 speed and next one will be PDK. I had the chance to drive a Cayman and 911 for a short time on a track. The new PDK's shift even quicker but what I find I like the most is, at speed, its one less thing to do, that is, moving my hands and feet.
2009 6 speed purchased with 32k miles with the 40k mile service documented done early as a sale condition - currently at about 34k miles. Absolutely stock, its not even de-snorked and I plan to keep it that way.
Expenditure
Premium gas

Upcoming expenditure
Brake pads and maybe rotors (are they same size as the Cayman S?)

1. PDK, Purchased new off showroom floor in early January 2011. Had about 7 miles at delivery. I was first and only customer to test-drive it. 48k miles ATT.
2. Mods are in my signature, and are listed in the order I performed them. Earlier this year, I had considered retrofitting PCM 2 with Nav, but it isn't cost-effective.
3. None that I can think of.
4. My 2011 is my Daily Driver. I occasionally drive it aggressively (i.e. fast), using the buttons or shifter, in or out of Sport or Sport+ mode. I love the 993, and I feel the Gen. 2 Cayman is a a modern 993.
Mine is a 2012 with a 6 speed and a bunch of options. I have just turned 20,000 and have to say this is one fantastic car! I will be leaving the 2.9 club soon however for a 15 CS which is now on order. Hope the S runs half as well as the 2.9. Who ever gets this car will be a lucky man or woman. My only mods were clear corners and the leather glove box lid.
Had my 987.2 Boxster 2.9 PDK with 17k miles for two weeks now.
Has the following gear:
PDK
Sports Chrono
Heated Seats
Black Leather Seats (not dash)
Auto Aircon
Bluetooth phone prep
Aqua Blue Metallic
Metropol Blue hood
19" Sports Design wheels
Mods I will likely be doing:
Sports design wheel with paddles
Cruise control
Pro-clips phone mount (probably with a just mobile iPhone holder)
Cdr30 aux to lightning cable adapter to charge and play music/sat nav from the phone
This is my first performance car so I'm slowly building confidence in how the car handles but loving every minute - can't stop grinning when I think about it too so that's got to be a good sign...
Bump... thought I'd bump this to the top of the list in an effort to get a few weekend only posters to join our poll, and see if we can hit 50 2.9 owners?
Bought my 2010 Boxster Base 3 weeks ago 36.5 with 17400 on OD. It is my Daily Driver I Have no plans of altering it for now. Except I am going to install Xpel on headlights and front coverage of the car and fenders (have done this on every car I've owned) also bought gutter guard screens to create and install for radiator/condenser protection. here is my options list along with a few pics. I can Tell you I am in love with this vehicle and have been since my first test drive. I usually tire of every car I own for one reason or another. I can honestly say I think this will be a keeper for a very long time.

2010 black Cayman base with 35,000 miles, have stated using it as my DD. Only thing I have done is had clear bra installed, full hood, fenders and bumpers, and had them put about 5 inches of covering on the roof, right above the windshield. Love the car. It's a pretty stripped base model but still loads of fun....had it about a year. Plan to get winter tires this time, the summer ones where a little rough this winter even though I live in the Charlotte area, where winters are pretty mild....
My wife and I met my sister in Orlando for the 11th annual Celebration car show (across from Disney World). You never know what will show-up, so always lots of fun! The trip home was 105 miles... and the 2.9 likes to cruise at 90 and wants to go 120 if I'd let it. After 3 years of ownership, I keep thinking about what I can do new (love to tinker) maybe add a TPC turbo??? But my car was faster than everything expect four guys on Ninja bikes on the way home. So I keep thinking, what I actually need is more empty road, and much faster speed limits. So I'm not sure what a turbo will do for me (except add frustration) about more speed that I can't use? LOL
Got to see Mclaren's P1 for the first time. Car looks great, but back end is really oddly shaped!
This show does a lot of fun stuff to help raise money for charity. My wife and sister posing with a Diablo Red Storm Trooper. LOL
K so I Bought the Gutter guard at Home depot, Purchased rubber edging to finish and made my front screens for the Radiator/condenser intakes to protect from stones...price to buy from elsewhere is 150...I spent $15. and got a lot of satisfaction knowing I could protect my new obsession.
so this
To this
and finished
I also used these cool Rubberized twists to hold them in place and anytime I need to remove I just untwist them(unfortunately they are black but I may spray them the color of the car)
