I have the above referenced car and it's having transmission problems. I am looking at replacing the transmission with a used one. My question deals with differing transmissions from 2006-2008 Caymans.

1. Mine shows the model number of 1060 030114
2. Looking at one with the model number of 1060 030116. This one is from a 2007 2.7L Cayman. I have a 3.4L model.

Is there a difference in the transmission between these model numbers or is it just a version or year thing? I don't want to put the wrong transmission into my car and make a REALLY bad decision.

Thanks to anyone who can help.

pre 2009 base cayman have 5 speed transmissions. You need a trans out of a pre 2009 S and or a 2009+ car. That said, the gear ratios are subtly different year to year. There is a thread in this section documenting them

One visual way to check is the 5 speed has both of its gear change levers on the passengers side. The 6 speed has a lever on each side. Do you have a 6 speed originally installed? How bad is the trans axle that it can't be repaired, perhaps by GBox?

Good Luck,

I did not know the 6 speed was an option on the 2.7. In my hunt for a 987.1, I did not see a single base model with a 6 speed. Does anyone here have one or even seen one?

Moot point. ALL '06 Caymans were the 'S' model, not 2.7 engine until 2007 model. So if you have a 2006 Cayman it is an 'S'.

I see it's been awhile, but I just saw this. I have a 2008 2.7 Cayman with the 6 speed/PASM option. The 6 speed works great on the 2.7 and should have been the standard transmission offering.
