[pic=left]http://www.planet-9.com/gallery/files/6/3/9/calendarcontestnewsicon_z.jpg[/pic] Point & Shoot! It is that time of year again! Time for our annual Planet Porsche Photo Contest with the winners showing up in our 2010 Planet Porsche Calendars! This year will work a little bit differently so please read the following rules:

1) All photos are to be submitted between July 10th and August 31st by uploading a ONE (AND ONLY ONE) photo per member to the following location: 2010 Calendar Photo Submissions - Planet Porsche Gallery

2) The pictures will be re-sized upon upload, but PLEASE keep your full size original should your photo be chosen. We will ask for it later if you are selected.

3) Photos should be at least capable of being printed at 8x10 @ 200 pixels per inch, typically this is somewhere around 5 megapixels raw, check your camera settings to be certain.

4) Finalists will be chosen by our panel of judges who will be looking for creativity, artistic talent, uniqueness and overall quality of the photo to represent the club in our 2010 Calendars.

5) Winners will be announced publicly when the Calendar is announced this fall. There will be a LOT more winners this year as we are changing some format items and looking for photos in various themes as well.

6) Please do not Photoshop or re-touch photos in any way, if a photo is selected that requires re-touching we will do it prior to publication. The pictures will be reproduced in CMYK under a very precise color management system - we have Photoshop talent that will make them look great in this medium under these guidelines.

That said, if you want to work on your picture using post-processing techniques to make them into black and whites or use High Dynamic Range (HDR) techniques, or other art-type treatments, that would also be acceptable. The non-retouching request is to keep folks from doing things like over-sharpening their pictures, etc, not to restrict the creativity of members. If you do use post-processing techniques, please be aware that some of the look my not survive the conversion from the RGB color space, to the more narrow CMYK color space, but every effort will be made to keep true to the original within the limits of the CMYK reproduction color profile for the digital press we're using.

7) If you have any problems uploading your photo to the website please contact the admin via [email protected]

Some additional notes:

We anticipate a lot of entries, and wrote the directions so this can be done with ease and speed. Please read the rules carefully and follow them. If you enter more than one picture, your entire entry will be disqualified. So, please plan ahead. Don't enter a picture and then expect us to remove it so you can enter another one at a later time... once you enter your picture, that's your entry. We will be firm on the deadline, August 31st. Any entries after that will not make the judging process.

While we specify at least 5 megapixels, that is a minimum. Shoot as big a picture as your camera is capable of - the site will upload a small size for judging, and if your picture is picked, we will ask you to submit the full-size file for the actual printing. The calendar printing is very high resolution on very high-quality paper, as anyone who has one of the previous three versions can tell you.

You may have to re-size your entry for uploading - this gallery has a 3 MB upload limit - but again, still keep your full-size image.

You may enter either horizontal (aka, landscape format) or vertical (aka, portrait format) pictures for layout variety.

Any Planet Porsche member world-wide may enter. The picture must be of your own Porsche, this year's calendar is open to all model Porsches and is not restricted to Caymans only.

Last year's winners can be seen here: 2009 Calendar

You do not get a free calendar if your picture is chosen. Past calendars have had upwards of 40 pictures in them, and we can't provide a free calendar to that many people and still keep the costs reasonable for everyone. We are changing our calendar ordering process however to make it easier and less expensive to order calendars this year and to offer a variety of calendars, more information in this regard will be released when the calendars are ready for purchase. We are also looking at having some special incentives this year as well and working on finalizing those.

One very important last thing - please read this carefully: If your picture is accepted for the calendar, we will ask for two things: 1) A high resolution version for printing - if the subsequent high-resolution version we ask for does not meet the minimum specifications, we will replace it with another picture. 2) We will ask you to sign a notice that states you are the copyright holder of the photograph and are giving Planet Porsche the right to reproduce it in the calendar and possibly use it in a screen-saver version for Mac/PC. If you enter a picture taken by someone else (such as a track photographer) you will need to get that person's permission as the original copyright holder of the picture to publish the picture in this project. Be aware that some photographers might want to charge you an extra fee for such publishing rights. We will not be responsible for paying any additional fees for those rights, or any legal problems arising from the unauthorized publication of a picture you did not secure the rights to in advance. We also cannot run pictures that have photographer's logos on them - you need to ask permission, and get a clean version... we will of course credit photographers for pictures shot by other than the car's owner, but no other compensation can be awarded to the photographer.

Finally, if you have any questions please ask first!

Our professional is doing them if there is any need to do them, but we are not doing them if not needed. We also cannot allow calendar entries that come from other sources like the Porsche website, or some other photographer, etc. without a signed release.
