Just skimmed that but didn't see anything new. It seems very likely there will be another Cayman GT4. The drive train though has been debated for awhile. Turbo 4 with more power? Turbo 6 from the 911?- but will it fit? Many believe it will be a detuned 4.0 MA175 from the GT3 since that is the only other available NA flat 6. I wonder about packaging though as that is a true dry sump with a big oil tank. It seems unlikely it would have a unique motor. Time will tell.

Thanks for posting the link, the article is a nice condensed version on the current situation regarding the GT4 RS.

The most important thing to me would be the specs on the motor. I’m hoping it stays naturally aspirated.

Also, I’d like to see the exhaust tips remain centered like the 981’s - purely aesthetic but I like the look.

Basically still a lot of speculation going on - the anticipation is killing me.

The new mid-mounted engine grows in displacement from 3.8 to 4.0-litres with a screaming redline near 9000rpm curdling from behind the front seats. The latest GT4 iteration won’t get the 911 version’s full 368kW but a milder output near 300kW, eclipsing the previous 283kW engine and mixing it with a screaming rev ceiling.
Also heard in the latest GT4 Clubsport spy video is a quick-shifting PDK transmission, though the road version is likely to also get a traditional six-speed manual.

The road-going Cayman GT4 is tipped to be unveiled later this year around the time of the Los Angeles motor show at the end of November. The track-ready Clubsport will likely launch later in 2019.

Chiming in from 987 land... :)

What I don't get is how Porsche would detune the 4.0 to ~420hp and keep the 9000rpm redline? What would be the point? The 9000rpm redline is so that the engine can make absurd hp/l, without the hp why the redline?

Either keep the 4.0 with the 9000 rpm redline and have it at 475hp claiming that the intake and exhaust is more restrictive or come out with a new 3.6 with a 9000rpm redline and 440hp. I think the latter would be an amazing car, one that would be sought after for a long time.

Sounds like the next GT3 is going to be turbo, which if true means this is the last shot at a non turbo Cayman/Boxster. Almost makes me want to remortgage my house and see if I can get an allocation! ?

Sorry... while both the C8 and our Cayman lay tours both have mid engined, the C8 isn't targeted at the Cayman -- its targeted at the 911 product line. And if Chevy will not fully change over the Corvette to the C8 but have a more limited C8 and a more mainstream C7.. then the C8 is really only aimed at the 911 RSR.
That's opinion of course..

It might be interesting to see where the LMGT arms race ends up. the 911 RSR is really somewhat of an odd animal -- not really designed as a mid-engined car.. but if the C8 was designed from the start to be mid-engined and it works well... will Porsche succumb to a "new" halo car... something like a 918 but a race car in design that can serve as a road car for homologation purposes. I wonder how fast those would sell out ?? I mean those 958's that were shown at Rensport VI are all spoken for, right??

The 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport makes its debut today at Daytona.
One of the biggest surprises of the 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport was that it uses the naturally aspirated 3.8-liter flat-six as the old GT4 fit with a new intake manifold to raise horsepower from 385 to 425.
Here is a fresh article from Road and Track January 4, 2019.

I suspect this was NOT the manifold ALONE but new manifold, new engine ECU tuning and a few other tweaks to bump up 40HP, the interesting question will be can you retrofit it to the existing GT4's?

Welcome. good luck with the 718 purchase, I hope you are buying one because you want it, no just to show it off! ;)
