Gentlemen my first post after searching a lot of threads on this. These 305s seem very similar in diameter, sidewall and circumference and revs per miles
https://tiresize.com/comparison/

265/40R19 27.3x10.4R19 27.3"Equal 10.4 760 4.2 85.9
305/35R19 27.4x12R19 27.4"+0.4% 12 758 4.2 86.1

Question is at an inch and 1/2 wider will they fit.

I like the aesthetics of the wider tire. That is my main reason since I getting new ones I started comparing and these are closer in Revs per mile than the 275 or 285s.
The 295 35 R19 is 11.6 inches wide and very similar in all other specs so I guess that is a real option too if it fits.

beefy? I'm not so sure. Upsizing is delicate and depends on wheel width and the tyre design (shoulder pattern, sidewall design, etc).

wouldn't it look too large on Cayman rims? 305 are 911 sizes IIRC.

I wouldn't do it. You need 11 inch wide rims which is too wide for a Cayman. I had this setup when I got my 987.2 Cayman and I hated the look and the ride.

Gt4 runs on 245/35/20 & 295/30/20 and I have not heard any complaints about the wheel looking or feeling too wide. but that is on 8.5" & 11" wheels.
