The motor fit pretty well. We are not using the 996 oil tank as we need the space for proper engine location. Re-using the existing 3 gallon tank in the passenger seat area. We did some interesting mods to get more space to improve the axel geometry. You can see it in my build thread. You are lucky to get 93. We only have 91 on the left coast.
Beer Drinker- DiverDog, I believe wreaked his long held master piece and retired from P9. There was a picture of the end product, passenger side front almost gone, as if it hit a wall causing the end of his project. The transcript is available under the 987 Cayman /Boxster competition section Goodbye To My 836WHP Cayman Race Car
Fu*ki*n A! But as track drivers this is what happens. I have a miata that serves my track duties. It's something I can walk away from without regret. I want to track my 987 like no other but the mileage is high and I doubt it'll last one lap with catastrophe. So for now it stays an autox queen. No offense to anyone.
You might think about how much longer those long tracks are going to be open. If now is your chance, give it a go, just make sure your engine is protected from oil starvation and you have plenty of brake pad.
Welll, bringing this one back. We're Bunny Boys Racing YouTube, and we own the car now. We're a collective of 8 racers and mechanics over in Seattle. Experience ranging from SRF, Rally, Endurance, SCCA, NASA, Champ but focusing on cheap Endurance series now (for that sweet sweet seat time). We gathered around endurance racing VW Rabbits, hence bunny boys, in Lucky Dog and quickly switched moved over to Miatas (Spec NAs, KSwap NAs, Spec NC, MX-5 Cup ND). BUT some of the guys got a wild hare and wanted to venture into Porsches so we bought an S2 out of Texas and found this 987.1 for sale locally at The Shop in Seattle. Long story short, we were testing the new girls out over at The Ridge Motorsports Park, windowed the S2 and this same 987.1 threw a rod bearing (we're guessing) after the long left hand carousel Carousel Turn 0:46-0:56 all before lunch. Rough day to say the least. Didn't have much info on this car until now; happy to find this thread. doing the engine tear down this week and will update with findings. The dry sump seemed to be stout. Maybe the turn was just its nemesis, Ran Nittos (ill check model when im back in the shop), some of the wired fuses were kicked out from the panel from getting in and out. Not sure if this was the cause or not, just pulled the engine, still just digging into this thing. Didnt know much about this thing until now, mainly our fault for running this thing without much background (didnt buy car from OP). Contemplating going LS or Coyote swap. But an 8k replacement or just a rebuild (fingers crossed) is looking good to our wallets. I'll do my best to keep this updated. we're newish to Porsches, any advice or guidance getting this thing back on track would be greatly appreciated!
Hey Arcflash! You guys are probably pretty familiar with our rear bumper and index fingers pointing you by on the straights. Bummed that ORP was taken off the calendar. Gonna be in Kent for the June race?
I saw while reading this thread that Apex1 was guiding someone to your build thread and I was hoping to study that. But after doing a little digging on here I came up short, is that still around?
.. Not sure why ORP got taken off but we'll be at Pacific June.
I don't think I made a build thread but I'm happy to answer any suspension, brake or LS questions for ya. You can just email me directly: joshua@arcflashllc.com
