987.1 PASM/Chrono vs 987.2

This will be my first Porsche and I’m looking to purchase a Cayman S for long term used as a daily driver. Which option would be the best? I like the combo of changing throttle response/ suspension to make things sporty when spirited driving, but how does the gen 2 compare without Sport Chrono/PASM? I understand it has a better stronger engine and no lMS/ oil issues, but is it worth it to save the extra $$? Any advice would help. Thanks ?

Hello.

You would be well served to purchase a 2009 to 2012 model year Boxster or Cayman. These cars got really good in 2009.
The engines and suspension and brakes on the S models is worth the extra money. Direct fuel injection is better for power.
The PDK transmission is fantastic, especially if you want to be full throttle and just focus on apexing corners on a track.
It is also great if you live in a snarled traffic city like SF or LA. Plus no missed shifts and unbelievably quick and launch mode.
Sport Chrono Plus is a must with PDK to get the most performance. 2009 and 2010 and 2011 cars are a bargain in my view.

I agree with JETWAKE, the gen2 is a much better performing car. I had both a 2008 Boxster S and still have a 2009 Cayman S. The 2009 is a very capable track car and a fun daily driver.

I have a 987.1 with both Chrono and PASM. PASM is nice but not a deal breaker. If you get one with PASM look at the DSC Sport unit from TPC Racing.

Chrono is a must. I believe that 987.2 can come with PSE as well that ties into the Sport Plus button.

I also have a 987.2 (2010) with PASM and Sport Chrono. Mine is a 6sp manual and honestly I don't use the Sport button all that much but it does make a noticeable difference when engaged. As for PASM, I like the fact the car sits a bit lower (10mm I believe) and it offers a ride that is slightly softer than the standard suspension when in normal mode, yet firmer when activated. I think this would be especially important if you want to run 19" rims with less sidewall. Either way they are wonderful cars and if you never drove a 987.2 without them you would still say it was fantastic and be very happy. :)
Good luck with your search, it is half the fun!
