Trying to remove my cupholder, so I can remove the glovebox, so I can remove my squeaky HVAC Blower.

My two 4mm allen screws holding in the cupholder don't seem to want to come out? I've turned and turned and turned them, and they are loose, but at this point seem to be turning in place. Is there a trick to getting these out or down enough to free the cupholder? Are they captive screws, or will they come all the way out? Feels like they've only come down a short ways and I've been turning forever.

So far pretty frustrating task as access to these guys is limited and have spent quite some time watching theme seemingly spin in place, ha.

Any pointers would be much appreciated!.

I ended up buying some ball end allen keys for a better angle and put a thin, flat screwdriver between the top edge of the glovebox and the dash to put some tension on the screws as I finished unscrewing them. That did the trick.

The problem I'm having now is I've put the screws back in, but can't get them tight.

What has happened is that the plastic has stripped out. If the cupholders are not loose and don't rattle, leave it alone. If they are loose, then put a small drop of glue or epoxy on the screws as you install them. Don't use a lot as you may never be able to remove them later without truly breaking something.

Once you have the glove box out, you may be able to see what they are screwing into and make some DIY repair to that piece.
