It's a shame this site doesn't have a search function.

<looks up>

Never mind, carry on.

While I agree that the search function is useful in this persons case it would fail to provide an answer. Therefor justifying his query.

Roy, to the best of my search capabilities and I looked I see that no one has installed a backup camera yet.

One option you can consider is installing a camera and then getting a video screen/rearview mirror. Not sure if you can find the mirrior for Porsche. hmmm

Actually this board does have a search function. Perhaps 981 FTW should try it.
It's probably more a shame that he didn't use it himself. Had he
done so he would have found no information or posts
regarding the use or installation of backup cameras at all.
It was only after I performed said same search did I post this question.
Sorry to have offended your sense of propriety on this board.
I can see yours is set at a very high bar.
Perhaps you should search -look before you leap.

I am looking for one myself as well. Mine does not come with one and rear view vision is pretty poor n this car. Would like something simple and good.

Thinking of giving this setup a try.

iPhone Android iPad WIFI car backup camera

Anyone know if there would be a problem tapping into the backup light power source? Specs state the camera and WIFI transmitter each consume 150 mA.
That's an interesting product, but it seems to me not very useful for day to day driving. You've got to open the app and get connected w/Wifi. If you're in your garage your phone is likely already connected to your home Wifi.

Using the backup light for a power source works OK for hard wired cameras because they are pretty-much instant-on. With this, you have to wait for the transceiver to boot, and then your phone needs to "connect" to that SSID once it is detected by the phone. That could take a while. And you'd have to go through the initialization process every time you put the car into reverse.

So its not a clean, hands-free system. I doubt I'd use it routinely.

Is there any way to send a video signal to the in-dash screen? Does it have some sort of aux connection or anything at all?

I'd really love to see somebody installing camera view mirror from Gentex. Shouldn't be that difficult. Yes, it's not exactly the same shape, but nobody who doesn't know will notice.

Automotive Products | Gentex

For those who are worried about quality - Gentex supplies most of today's rear view mirrors for all premium brands.

Looks to me like Gentex is an OEM manufacturer. I don't see any consumer products listed on their web-site - just their technology.

BTW, I see they make Blind Zone mirrors. After haning that on my wife's SUV (which already as much better driver visibility) I'd really like it on a Cayman or Boxster. I never have 100% confidence that there isn't something hidden by the passenger headrest or the roof.
