ASK amplifier replacement question

I have searched this site and others and am unable to determine which wires coming from the head unit (cdr-24) to the ASK amp are the ones feeding the signal. I have determined the constant 12v and the Ground also the R/L lower door speakers. wondering if anyone has "just" replaced the amp. i am planning on using the highlevel input on the replacement amp and not a converter.

just finished my install and sounds great. Real nice, even for the factory speakers (8"). i ran the speakers in stereo (L&R) but put the cross over at LP (low pass) gave a much richer, tighter sound. Really brought it all together. Cant really base the new sound to the oem, since the ASK amp never worked since purchased two months ago.

Can you please go in to more detail about your install and post some pictures?

My ASK amp has been dead for months now and would like to go aftermarket as well and would love to see one all hooked up.

Did you run new power to the amp or use all factory wiring. Thanks in advance!

i will post pics for you soon. install is really, really simple. i used the factory power and ground. the only thing i had to do was run a wire to the fuse box for the ignition/remote wire.

our cars have a gromet behind the battery that feeds into the cabin of the car making it very easy.

some aftermarket amplifiers have the ability to turn on remotely by sensing the signal from the high level input that one would use if retaining the factory radio (which is what i did). although my amp does not have the remote sensing feature that i speak of. if yours does/will then no need to run a remote wire to the fuse box.

i will get you more details a little later along with the photos. :)

I went with a Rckford Fosgate Prime R150x2. Great little amp at a very good price.

I removed the inside of the panel that covers the ASK amp. the piece that contains the airinflator and oil. it is held on by 5 or 6 screws. this allowed for the amp to be mounted in the oem location using some brakets.

when you are ready to move foward PM me and i will get you all the wiring colors, etc.

I'm probably going to do something very similar... but, with the Rockford Fosgate PBR300X4 Punch. It's a 300-Watt Ultra Compact 4-Channel Amp. This will allow me to keep the stock amp cover / tool storage door in place and get better power output to some new speakers.

I'm also considering replacing the stock Bose speakers with Illusion Audio speakers (not to drift too far off topic... but, goes to amp choice).

I'm in 987.1 Boxster with the rear Bose speakers... and I think this little amp packs just the right punch to cover front / rear - right / left just fine. Passive Crossovers come with the Illusions.

i know exactly what amp you speak of...good little amp. although they do run rather hot due to their size so careful when you place that cover back on. i know that in my neck of the woods where average temp in the summer is 100 that would never work.

i know that from the pictures one might think that the cover was not able to fit but it does as seen from the picture below.

yes the amp is behind the cover.

 Thank you DVS! I most likely going to order the same amp as you. It has good reviews and I like how it looks installed and know it works. I will probably wait a week to order the amp but will let you know. The more details the better. This has been the most help by far

Just a heads up to those that aren't aware that these amps can be repaired.

I had my ASK amp fixed by United Radio Service in East Syracuse, NY. I believe that they are the largest automotive electronics repair facility in the country and they just happen to be located near me. They fixed the amp for a flat rate of $250 and gave me a one year warranty. I know that these amps are pretty unreliable, but it's been a couple years now and it's still working perfectly.
