Is this a cheap and easy fix or does the dash have to come out to replace the entire cluster?

I had the same thing happen to me a few months ago in almost the same spot (except my missing pixels are fewer than yours).

Spoke to dealer about getting a goodwill replacement but was denied. Dealer said they've seen a very few of these and all of them were under warranty and the entire cluster was replaced.

Frankly I don't even notice it now because it's so tiny but still the point is this shouldn't happen.....

There is an Article on the cluster removal for a new colored gauge face that helps. But the entire cluster is on sale on Parts for $2100. Ebay has used ones from 1000 to 1200. I searched for some pixel repair/replacement companies but the one response I got sounded like they have to wait for the display to show up somehow...not too encouraging. Might have to resort to black tape over the display if the numbers white-out any further. I wonder if a salvage place will part out the cluster if 3 of us needed 3 different displays.

Wheeler Dealers just did an Audi TT that had cluster pixel issues. They took it to a shop in England that specialized in cluster LCD repair. I think they charged them like 100 GBP to swap out the panel itself. I bet this either exists, or should exist in the US. Or, worse comes to worst, you send it to the UK.

Looks like a couple in the CA area recommended on rennlist:

in the mercedes W210...it was the ribbon .. it was not getting contact on the board.. with that car.. the fix was a mouse pad.. and jamming it in the space. So that the ribbon would make contact..with the board..
